Is it possible to wire your whole house with 110v current compared to 220v? What's the pros and cons? I was thinking about this since I'm moving there pretty soon that the house I want to be built will be 110v in that way I can take along with me my appliances from the US at the same time save some energy.
Hello Ludabi, sure tou can build a house with 110V, I would consider having both 220/110. as you might have problems to get 110 bulbs here. But how can you safe energy with running on 110V? you proboly need more because of the lost heat energy in the transformer. You also should use wiring with a bigger diameter as the lower Voltage needs more Ampere...
A: You will have to use a transformer as the current wiring of this area is not capable of splitting into 110 volts as can be done easily in the US. B: 220 is more efficient than 110, so you will NOT save energy. Higher voltage means less voltage loss and lower cost of construction due to smaller wire size requirements. C: There is very little here that is available in 110 volt. You will have nothing but problems if you wire 110 only. Larry
My brother's house is wired 110 and 220 volts coz most of his appliances are from the US, as it is cheaper to send appliances than buying them in the Phils. So far, he hasn't regretted and find no hassle at all.
you need both otherwise what will happen if you sell the house? you will only be able to sell it someone who has a lot of US apliances they want to ship over.
Just curious which method your brother's house was wired. Was a stepdown transformer used inside the house (wattage costs money, how much wattage do you need?), or was a 3 lug transformer put on the pole at a cost of P200,000+? Larry
since you mentioned only appliances, just buy a couple of portable transformers for 110v. each one would have 2-3 outlets for 110v. that's the most simple and convenient way.
