Still a wired world.Councilor Nestor Archival Sr. yesterday requested the Association of Barangay Councils to do an inventory of all unused overhead wires and decaying poles. Representatives of six utility companies also agreed to attend to tangled or spaghetti wires. (Sun.Star Foto/Alan Tangcawan)

SIX companies committed to fix or remove dangling wires and rotting poles that endanger the public, following two incidents in Cebu City when falling poles killed two persons and hurt three others.

In the City Council, Councilor Nestor Archival Sr. also asked the Association of Barangay Councils to do an inventory of unused overhead wires and dilapidated posts in all 80 barangays.

In a meeting with Mayor Michael Rama yesterday, representatives of telecommunication companies promised to comply with City Ordinance 1894, which addresses the problem of tangled wires, among others.

A portion of the agreement they drafted yesterday states that they commit to remove “poles and/or wires and other facilities creating eyesores, posing danger to lives and properties, and those declared inoperative.”

The probs arise from the utility companies not knowing where the fault is,so they just string another new line up and bypass the old one.

No, they deserve every fine they get. They have not been doing their jobs.

I didn't say they didn't deserve any fines, I intimated there was an impossible time limit set to put right 50 odd years of bad cabling.

Sadly this is only an order on Cebu which while we know it won't be followed their it also has no impact on the rest of the country including us.
