I could be wrong, but I don't think they will let him donate unless he has been in country for 6 months or more... Larry
Doctor, "how long have you been in country?" Guy, "7 months" Problem solved. But really, why would such a rule exist? To allow him to more time to be exposed to 3rd world diseases?
"Oh, sorry sir, we have a policy you should have been here for 8 months. We have to use this local donor, who will sell his/her blood for 5,000p per litre."
Well, if this should be true, that would be about the most stupid thing I ever heard... Our friend was allowed to go home this morning after one week in Hospital, and "Gerwin" did not mention anything about his length of stay in the Philippines as much as I can see in his post, maybe you see something I don't...
So you are saying this would surprise you? I know this is a requirement for some Philippine hospitals, local blood mafia, you know. We wouldn't want to intrude on the locals income stream. I wonder how many 22 year old Germans have been in the Philippines more than 6 months... Glad to hear he seems to be doing better. Larry
It's in fact a requirement in many other countries too. I know in Sweden you can't donate blood within 6 month after being to a tropical country (probably for the risk of blood deceases like Dengue and Malaria I guess). But, what are they afraid of in the Philippines, where they got more or less all dangerous deceases domestically?
