I live in Florida, USA. Am considering moving to Valencia. Would like to ask someone who is familiar with that city a few questions. Thanks, john

i'm certainly no expert at all but if you poise a few questions here I'll give it a shot. And, maybe some of the old hands will jump in as well....

But first John, how bout you tell us how you heard about our beautiful Valencia.

And if you're a Floridian, how come your handle is Ondoy Bohol?

Than we'll happily tell you everything we know and more about Valencia.

Ask away. There are several of us here, and I'm sure you will get a mixed bag of answers, from which you can pick and choose the answers you like best!

    Valencia

I married a girl from Bohol. Our marriage didn't make it. I have been to the Philippines 3 times and learned to love the people. I am considering Valencia because of the people and what I have heard of the climate. I just want clarification on the climate. What is it like really. does it get into the 90's there. Is the humidity high. And was wondering about health care. What do you do if a serious health problem comes up. Where would you go and is the care good?

Thanks. I had checked out Wikipedia but it didn't provide specifics as much as I was looking for. Like specifically does "cool" mean 60 degrees or 80 degrees. Having been in Manila, Cebu and other cities 80's is cool when you compare that to what I experienced in those cities. I was wondering if "cool" in Wikipedia means 60's, 70's or 80's.

And there was no mention of health care issues in Wikipedia at all.

    thank you,

    John

When I stay in the PI it is only a few neighborhoods away from Valencia. I would estimate that when they say cool they are only talking a few relative degrees. Maybe 3-5 degree difference from the coast where Dumaguete is located. At least that has been my observation. Some of the posters who actually live there may be able to get more accurate than that and maybe there is more variance depending on the season.

There are actually a few hospitals in Dumaguete but they are nothing that you would be familiar with. There are plenty of specific posts in this forum on them, you just need to do a little digging to get an idea of what has been discussed. If good health care is a requirement then maybe you need to try it before you buy it or look to the larger cities that would be better supplied. Some are able to accept what is offered in NO, most others choose to leave unless they simply have no other options. Only you can decide if the compromises are worth it.

Ondoy, Valencia is a little cooler in the daytime, but it's still hot. But, IMHO night time temperatures here are ideal.
But for serious medical care, you'd have to go down the mountain to Dumaguete. And the hospitals there are not confidence inspiring.

But have you checked out Baguio? It's comfortably cool to somewhat cold at night, and they do have first class medical care.

Might be just what you're looking for.
