Gustavians/MLuillier are now in Maison Rose where we purchased products from France like food and personal care(cheeses, coldcuts, marmalade, grains, wife's hair cares) that we cannot find here in Dumaguete and if there is, its 20-30% more higher than Cebu. Il Ducato are for italian products, Rustans and SM has also Japanese & US food items.

Thing I miss is the honesty and lack of scams...my first day in this country I was fleeced 13k php. Of course you do adjust your way of thinking but it does take a while to get used to having your wallet in back pocket when getting home.

I have been in the Philippines 7 years this month. I had the advantage of working out of Makati for 3+ years so I gleaned enough to realize what the impact of my decision to retire here would mean. I miss a few things and a few family and friends back home but knew the cost of living in San Diego was too expensive. Fortunately for me, I met the "right person" and we built our home here and are very happy. The main downside for me living here is I drive into Dumaguete daily and as everyone knows, it is extremely stressful.
So no complaints that I can not get the wines or cheeses I prefer, there are far too many good things in life here to offset those.

I don't miss very much otherwise I would have stayed in London, but can't help being nostalgic for some things. The traditional Sunday roast at a country pub in winter, customer service, enforced noise pollution laws against neighbours from hell, an honest and efficient postal service, and reliable emergency services, particularly fire and ambulance, are a few that spring to mind. What I don't miss are cold damp miserable days, the exhorbitant price of almost everything, the taxation without representation that must be making Watt Tyler turn in his grave, and continually having to acquiesce to the demands of the noisy minorities at the expense of the silent majority.

I can help ya out with a few there.

1, 2 and 3: move to Valencia. I'm getting downright cold with a fan on at night. Only a few nights in the summer do I turn on the AC.
4: Finish Line at the airport had some good coffee. If you make nice with the owner he might sell ya a bag to take home.
7: Garcia's has some really good pizza, on par with most pies you'll get in the US.

I havent heard anyone miss working long hours yet and having to mow their lawn, cleaning their house and expenssive cigarettes?

" you have to take the good from the bad, smile when your sad, love what youve got and remember what you had. Always forgive but never forget, learn from yojr mistakes but never regret, people change, things go wrong but at the end of the day, just remember..life must go on"

    have a lovely evening everyone!

LOL wrye83, I already saw some complained about pollution, bad neighbours, high prices, taxes and etc :-). so I thought, does anybody here miss having to work long hours? or mowing their lawn, doing their own laundry and cleaning their house? :-). I miss the lechon, the sound of the rooster and cows and most of all... the balut in blvd. LOL
