After reading all of this I don't know if I want to take the plunge or not. We've been living together for 4 years and happy as can be. Why the heck should we ruin it?
The only reason I would do it would be for tax purposes. Absolutely pointless here in the Philippines.
I think the OP was Canadian. The CPP (Canadian Pension Plan) provides survivor benefits which are small but worth something.
thanks for all the input guys, the cat's out of the bag now so i can come out from under my rock. does anyone remember having to get a divorce decree in order to get the Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage? thanks...
It has to be the Original or a notarized copy of the Original of the "Absolute" The Nisi is not acceptable. JP
They will ask for your divorce decree at the U.S. Consulate and also when you apply for your wedding license. They wanted the original at Dumaguete but I told them my ex received the original because she was the one who filed, they accepted that.
Congratulations my friend, Hope things go well for you, as you know we are all here to help where we can and point you in the Right Direction. Problem shared is a problem Halved as they say JP
ok... so i NEED a divorce decree which makes me wonder what the USA embassy does to grant a person a Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage. i got divorced about 45 years ago and i don't have any documents from back then so i searched the court house of the county i was divorced in to see if i could get a copy from them but it looks like they don't offer that service. however there was a zillion websites n the search page that offered their services to provide the document for free. i peaked into one of those sites and i had to give them my bank info to go any further. looks a bit suspicious to me! has anyone used one of those online divorce document providers? i know several responders said i need the original but my documents from that period of my life got lost in space. so IF... i can get a digital copy of the divorce, can i have it notarized in duma? thanks again guys... norm : ))~
Most of those website offer a "free trial" for a certain period of time then they charge your card after the time has expired if you don't call and cancel your account. What State and County were you divorced in?
