Okay, I have a simple question. no one has been able to give me a descisive or conclusive answer. Why are there no marine fowl in the Area?
Have they all been shot and eaten or what?

Likewise there is no road kill here, other than rats, toads, and dogs. Indicating that there is no remaining indigenous wildlife. I saw a monitor lizard once, and we have some small sparrows and swallows around our house thats it.

It's the scarcity of food that's why you don't see them around in many area. Birds do go to places where food is abundant, same with the seabirds. It's not that they were killed and eaten.

Plenty fish in the sea, at least for seagulls, theres birds in the forest.
Take a long walk in the forest and open your eyes, you wont find birds in the city they have more brains than us.

    Plenty of Birds

Since you ask for Sea Fowl , let me tell you to go just direction Tanjay and you will find lots of commercial fish ponds. King fishers ( even in floks) and Silver Herons amongst others. We have a large garden in front of the house where we atrack birds with all kind of fruits. Also the sound of our own birs seems to be interesting enough to come and have a look.
Mind you , The wiest diverity on Birds in the Phils is on... negros.. It has lots of Endemic specise like the local Kalaw ( HornBill) , Bleeding heart Pigeon and the Emperial Fruit Dove. There are so many kinds of * vry colorfull) fruit doves . every day we see more and more " new faces "
Beside that there are Racakettailed Parrots , Colasi ( hanging Parrot , sleeps like a bat and thus upside down from the branch of the three) BLue Capped Parrot and Hill Myna .
If you wish to keep some of them . IT IS PROHIBITED !! Though I know people that...
All wildlife in Negros is OFF LIMITS for commercial trade unlike Cebu...Including maarine ornasmental fish and inmvertebrates.....
LET,S KEEP IT THAT WAY !!!!!

Jimeve, you are so right. They don't stay in a place where food is scarce.
Yes, they have more brains than humans although with just small heads. They can sense that food is hard to find in the city so they go to the rain forest for wild fruits, etc. etc.

Wow, you are so lucky earlmj to be surrounded with different species of birds. They usually like an area with lots of trees with fruits and it's pluses for them. At my sister's house they have plenty of trees with fruits like mangoes, indian santol, star apple, mangcopa and many more. The birds love those fruits. Everytime they feed their chicken the birds come down from trees and join in with the chickens for grains. The chickens don't mind at all. They get along pretty good. I'm glad to hear that wildlife in Negros is being protected. Some people think they are killed for food.

I am looking forward to a trek to the top or at least up near the top of Talinas, and I have been assurd wildlife abounds there.

I understand that most wildlife does not hang out in the city. I have seen egrets in the rice fields of Siaton.. But my question was seabirds specifically. I have travelled all over the world and anywhere there is a coast line there are liteally thousands of gulls, terns, pelicans etc. depending on the region and local species. They live on fish garbage, sea life. so you are saying there is no fish on the sea coast in sufficient quantities to support populations of gulls? Hard to believe that. And if it is true then there is a real problem I think.

Now maybe there never were gulls here and that would be an answer if it were true.

    PS:
I have lived in Balugo Valencia, Upper Batingel, Moal Boal, not just the city, no wildlife there either to speak of. Unless you count tukaws and tiki.
Birds of any size are largely absent. I just find it unusuall compared to other, even developed countries where concrete has superimposed itself, and large critters abound. Now I will admit that I don't have knowledge of what animals and birds might populate this archipeligo, so I am willing to be eucated or pointed in a direction for study. You would think you would see hawks and "eagles" more often, I have spotted a few on rare occasions. Their absence indicates a lack of small terrestrial creatures upon which they might feed.

    Most respected site for birdwatchers

BIRDWATCH.PH is an extreme good guideline throughout what one can expect here. Once again Negros is a more or less safeheaven for wildlife...as long as...

Within this site you can get directed to Romy , one of the best photographers I have seen...
    Romy lives in Zambales though...

Plenty of waterfowl is place in a special gallary. As I said before here where I life just a couple of minutes drive and we see plenty of waterfowl..
Kingfishes come even to our garden and fruitdoves as well.
Many Kingfishes , and that might be new to you , feed on insects and not on fish... The name is confusing . only some 25% of them feed stricktly on fish..

Thanks so much for the lead to more info, I will have a look.
I guess my post was confusing, as I initially asked about sea birds , then expanded my question to land birds and animals.
My main interest was sea birds like the gulls, terns, sand pipers etc. It was just surprising to me that there are none here.
I am a fan of raptors, the birds, not the dinosaurs, so far I have seen more in captivity than in the air. sad. But as you say, perhaps in the right locale...

I have wondered the EXACT same thing. Where are the sea gulls???? I have traveled all over and every where else has loads of them. Why not in the PHL? Good topic!!
I hate to disappoint all you RICH people (I am one too..LOL) but I hung around enough poverty people to realize that they SHOOT everything in sight....protected or not it doesn't matter to them! If people don't have enough food to eat then what do you think will happen.......they will shoot/hunt anything FREE! Also, if they can make a few pesos by capturing it and selling it......then all the better. AGAIN.....the wildlife is FREE and the poor have plenty of time on their hands. It is a dangerous combination. There isn't much RESPECT for the environment. How could there be? Do you really expect parents that give birth to 5-10 children and can't feed them or educate them.....will teach their kids RESPECT? Those kids are on their own to scratch out a life in whatever way they can! I have listened to enough stories to realize how difficult a task we are facing when those of us "environmentalist" rich enough to have such lofty ideas want/expect certain things requiring EVERYONES participation. Are you going to tell the boy that had to walk 1 1/2 hrs to school one way and only ate bananas off his parents banana planation for breakfast, lunch and dinner to NOT hunt birds or NOT sell the orchid he found? Are you going to the parent (2nd grade eduation only) of one of my kids that are in the out-of-school program because his parents can't afford to send him to Kindergarten that he can't ILLEGALLY bag sand that is RUINING their area and sell it even though that is his ONLY income and it isn't enough for a family? What is the answer? I don't know......I was ONLY plagued with problems from others!!!!! Handing over my $$ won't solve it......there needs to be better FINITE answers. No one ever seemed to have answers. I am hoping that thru this FORUM others will know better ways of having answers to educate my limited knowledge from my short time in living there. I do want to make a POSITIVE DIFFERENCE when I go back.
