    Hi Guys/Gals.....
It seems that we all have a different reason as to why we decide to retire/return to the Philippines.
Would be interested to know all your views, both those of Expats and returning OSW.What are the advantages or disadvantages of life in "Paradise".

    Same question.

The reason I posed this question is because on one or two other threads some unpleasant remarks were being thrown around.I was curious as to why some people wish to remain or return, if they are so critical of the place or people.

While the PI/Duma is visually a paradise I know the reality of living there is quite different if you have a limited income at least. For me it is more of a choice of having my children living and being with lots of relatives their age and should I get the opportunity I feel I will get more for my money concerning housing and other daily expenses than I would get in the US. I am not tired of the US government trying to tax its citizens, provide healthcare and education for the masses, and regulate businesses. I am tired of my fellow whining citizens most of whom have never served anyone a day in their lives. That would be my reason.

Pedro, That is the truth and a very good reason. I am a simple person very happy with simple things. I am tired of the greed and bad attitudes over here. When I see the happy smiles on the faces of people who have so little compared to the people who who can't be happy having as much as they do, it makes me want to move there all the more. Those who are truly happy with what they have are truly rich..

    Jerry.

THANK YOU for this positive, long-overdue thread, John Boy. I'm happy to read both your and JerryHeid's thoughts and certainly share your appreciation for this beautiful country and its people.

So refreshing to have an "upbeat" thread started; frankly, so many of the complaining/negative topics have been getting to me...

We can't wait to make our move at the end of the summer!!

    Hi guys...
The reason I have travelled to the PI many times is because I met my wife there.
I love the place to bit's, yes all Countries can have some down sides but I truely feel safer in the Philippines than my own back yard!
I love the people, the food and the scenery in some of the places is beautiful.
AS for people who offend, well next time give them a wide berth there's enough choice for friends..Fresh mango's for breakfast anytime. regards JB

I am not going to turn this thread into something negative, however for all you people that state that the Philippines is a "Paradise" full of happy people ... please let us know how many years you have lived here.

Better yet .... Since this thread is about why you choose to live in the PI, how about everyone that posts to this thread let us know how long you (the foreigner) have actually lived here ... (vacations don't count).

So far, I see that everyone that has posted here so far shows a "location" outside of the PI.

    Ron, (3 1/2 years)

I am a filipina and this is my 10 years in canada and had the privilage to be a canadian citizen. Still.., i am considered as an immigrant , different and can't speak well french . I meet my boyfriend for 8 years now here in canada and he was able to visit Philippines On his own for two years in a row this year . I am working and he is retired.
" No place like home" for me , Philippines is my home and i am here abroad for job and to save in preparation in living in Philippines. That the blessing . When we come back to Philippines I don't plan to live closer to where my family to avoid the constant visit and crying for help. I know this sound uncaring, but i give them all of my life , helping them, i believe this time is mine and my honey to live quietly and peacefully. Filipinos is so complicated to understand , but hey, we have 7100 island to choose and live. If you're not meant where you live now, move on and find one that you feel comfortable and happy even it's mean start all over again.

To be different in a far away place is scary and tough. Not knowing if you be accepted and respected as their own.To my own experienced, "RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING" help me through the tough times and be part of the community we live in and letting them know i am not scared even though i don't have family or lots of friends around. Know when to be right and say sorry when necessary.

To be a different is a compliment not a conflict.

Thanks JB you always the peace saver.
