Something like 11 years ago, a friend and I are watching Fox here in Dgte. Gretta VanSustern is interviewing Jesse Ventura who is going to start his own cable tv show..

Gretta says, "That'd be like having a Filipino Work channel wouldn't it? Who would watch it?"

I don't know how Gretta had the insight on Filipino culture to whip that out of her head so fast, but that about sums up the problems in PI.

In 1960 the Philippines was the most promising country in Asia, while South Korea was scavenging for food to keep from starvation, while trying to rebuild their war torn country.

Now, South Korea is near the top of the heap in Asia, while the Philippines is at the bottom.

The Philippines is the only predominantly Catholic country in Asia, and has joined the plethora of other Catholic countries who are poor and full of corruption and underachievers.

The political formula for control - votes

    Buying poor's votes

Once people realize they can vote themselves money the county goes down hill. Here like every other country, whether it is the US or Philippines, the formula for political control is to give the poor a bowl of rice (or meth) for their votes. They just want a meal, if you can keep them hungry you can control them. Never let the middle group get anywhere really, by taxing them to death, as you tell them how much of an opportunity to rise up and the top political "families" live like kings. It has been going on for centuries and does not matter what the form of government.

Being innovators, the Philippine's political establishment has added unsolved murders to the political drama, and general dishonesty. Look at the impeachment trial.

I truly believe that public urinating is not any reason for going backwards... that' s sounds more like a statement of a person who is unhappy and ranting against each and everything, ...

however, disrespecting environment and poisoning nature lifted the industrial "first world nations" pretty much to the leaders in the world...

That is true, but I hope that technology has improved since the 19th Century and that the developing world can rise without all the environmental poisoning. If not, God help us all!

A lot of truth in this thread. I agree with the poster however that question is wrong on its face as the Philippines is not only slow to catch up to the rest of SE Asia, but I think for the overall population, it is actually declining. Life is becoming more difficult, not less difficult. Food and basic needs are becoming more expensive, but wages are not rising to meet those increases.

Now, the question is how do you solve these problems?

... well the new technology is used to poison it more, and giving the rich countries the chance to buy additional "waste-volume" from poor countries to keep their statistics "green"...

...And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made, looked at it, shook his head, ran away and has never been seen since ...
