Why not WHY NOT?

Everyone else has posted about this so I guess I get to mouth off about it too?

My impressions of Why Not bar on my two visits once during the day and second weekday night.

The day visit was to look at prices for various things in their display-already read complaints about the food there, so no interest in checking the menu. The prices are high but not outrageous imo. Was specifically looking for dark, real chocolate which I can buy for about 1/3 the price in the U.S.

Night visit was to check out the disco. Anyone who has lived in big cities in the U.S. or elsewhere will immediately surmise this is strictly a small time operation, nothing special.

Place was moderately crowded. Appeared there were several Filipinas hustling guys for drinks, obviously they were not hookers just from the way they behaved, more like the barflys you find in USA. Bar staff was not very friendly. They threw out some Filipina for very flimsy reasons-she had some small disagreement with one of the staff there, not even loud, they threw her out. Prices were not exactly cheap, but not that high compared to similar places in U.S. Point is they were more like US prices than prices you should be paying in the Philippines.

Music was so-so disco junk, not exactly dance exciting.

Hookers were outside both times, quoting outrageous prices for such a small town-near Manila prices. Anyone that pays P1500 for a short time jump in the sack with a 6 for one example should use the money instead to have his head examined. Why not is not the place to find a hooker if you want value for your money(there are much better places). But the hookers were friendly, so i guess if you like to throw away your money, it's ok.

In sum, I was not impressed by the place and it's just another indication of what a small town we are in.

 

I just returned from a month visit to Dumaquete . I went to "Why Not " twice and enjoyed it . I wasn't looking to hook up with a hooker just have a good evening drinking and dancing with my asawa . Funny how the barfly's don't even think of approaching you when your asawa is with you .

 

That's because most attached filipinas have the death stare down cold!

 

I wonder if the same Female Bar Floor Manager is working the Why Not disco, You know, the One Who always looks so mean and pissed off.....

 

There are a few types of ladies at Why Not:

There are GRO's working for Why Not: *Their role is increase the purchase of drinks by visitors. *There are not authorized or paid to go out with the customers as hookers. *However they have their right to do so on their own if they want. *They are paid 300 P and night and get have the amount of the drink purchased. *However the ladies drink price is 3 times the price of a normal drink for the same order. *So both Why Not and the lady GRO split 1 1/2 the normal price of the drink. *Most of these ladies do not hook, and other than being aggressive in drinks (there are supported by the many waitresses, who are constantly as the customer if he wants another drink) are pretty nice ladies. *They have chosen not to be hookers by doing this job so you have to give them some credit. *Within a short period of time the ladies working for WHY NOT as GRO's will all have their physicals and health clearances since this is a new policy that will be implemented shortly. *The "free lancers" hookers do not have this requirement on them.*




Another type of lady is the "free-lance" hookers. *They usually sit at the small round tables at the entrance side of the bar. *They usually do not face the disco floor, but watch the men at bar. *They also congregate around the billard area. *At the second pool table as they can site at the area immediately facing the table, and look like they are not hooking. The independent ladies usually want 1000 P, but if you go through the two or three pimps at Why Not the price is 1500 P. * The problem about the Pimps is that they lie about everything, particularly the age of the younger girls, everyone will say they 18 or older. *One is a gay, which means he exposes himself to more STD’s from all over the world with the visitors to Why Not *than the average person will ever do. *Whether he is exposing his girls is an unanswered question. The pimps are aggressive and will start a conversation with the visitors trying to get them to buy a lady for the night. *Spending more than one night at Why Not and observing the activities you can tell the role of each lady and pimp. * You can watch the ladies, and see who are connected to pimps that are working the floor. * I do enjoy watching the free lancers work a visitor at the bar. *They can convince most men who are visiting that they have just meet the ladies of their dreams, both are immediately in love, and that he will probably get laid tonight. *The funniest thing that has ever happened to me is when one of the freelancers said "hi" and her new bf of the night almost jumped across the table thinking I was going to take away his dream girl. *This fantasy is usually fueled by alcohol. If there is no pimp involved many times the male visitor is not immediately aware that he has a professional lady until later at the hotel when she asks for money for her sick mother. *All freelancers have a sick mother that needs medicine money or some other story revolving around a medical or food need. If a lady is in Why Not, dressed suggestively, and by herself or in a group up to three, she is most likely a free-lancer prostitute. *If you take a lady into WHY NOT be prepared to have here solicited by the many men visiting that think every woman in Why Not is for sale.*




There are some ladies suggestive dresses with some of the players in town at Why Not. *Usually you will see these same couples together for a period of time, and the ladies are not free-lance hookers.




There are some local ladies, with their dates in Why Not without or with dates there for a fun night out on the town. *You can usually identify them by their attire. *They are simply dressed and are not eyeing the men all night. They are not for sale for the evening.
Many people in Why Not are familiar with the positive and negative effects of shabu.
I took my son to Why Not. *His comment is "Dad, this is not the place to find a wife." *Even one of the local free lancers agreed with him. *So know what you are looking for, try not to insult an innocent lady if you can find one in Why Not and have fun. *There are other things to get involved with in Why Not other than the hookers, such as games and Karaoke. *Food can be ordered in the disco also.*
Why Not is the safest club for tourist to visit in town. *Identify the exits and full layout of the Why Not disco are your first visit. *There is the more private billiard area down below near the Karaoke room, and exists also.. *Check it all out. *Presently smoking is tolerated in the Karaoke room if your need to smoke, or in the rest room area off the smaller billiards room.
Remember my son’s comment: “ this is not the place to find a wife” however I corrected him by saying it is a good place to find “rent a wife” for the short term.

You speak as if you are a member of why not management/owner?
Not sure how on what basis you made these detailed claims/conclusions, other than the clothes they are wearing?

Women who hustle guys for water downed scam drinks are worse than hookers imo.
At least with a hooker you get something for your money. If what you claim is true that
Why Not employs these ladies, then my estimation of the place drops several notches from
small town mediocre to clip joint. Guys who use pimps are in the main just stupid as are guys who pay 1000 and up to a quick f**k Even more stupid are men who buy ladies drinks.

I am not in management or owner. If I was I would probably be defending the practices of the club. I was just trying to give you some information. Do you really think the management want the ladies pay and comissions exposed? If you did not realize that there was GRO's there you probably have not spent enough time observing. I was just trying to give enough information so someone would not go into the club with naive thoughts about what is going on as apparently you had done. The discussion I gave is not a secret to anyone who frequents the club often. But like many other things in life it is not discussed publicly.

We all have our own opinion and you have every right to have your own on the GRO vs hooker discussion. I would glad to meet you there anytime, introduce you to the GRO's and the hookers, whatever you desire.

The primary reason I believe WHY NOT survives as a club is it safe feeling for foreigner and has it footprint all over the internet. So when new people search out Dumaguete, Why Not pops up and they pop in to see what is going on. The alternative clubs I have been in are mostly populated with Filipinos and cater to the taste of the Filipinos, (Bar Rock, Sizzler, Tiki, etc.)

Why Not has some good points and bad points, but do not walk in so naive that you don't think those girls dancing behind the part are just party girls there for fun. The business has not survived as long as it has without a good financial plan and without the attractions that bring in the foreign tourist money.

 

I find Why Not alright in Dumaguete personally. Its not great and its very much like said by Dave. Still go to any of the other bars/clubs and its small, very loud trash music (louder then Why Not) and their drink menu is extremely limited. Other places seem to be just a place to get drunk or smoke shabu-shabu. At Why Not you can dance, sing, play billiards, chat (music isn't too loud to chat). Even meet some decent girls to chat with. Or of course if inclined pick up a girl for the night. Prices seem to be 1k unless has a pimp. Still IF I was going to better imo then going and paying 300p for a girl for an hour at Tocino Country that probably has 5-10 guys a night.

Sure it has it's place. It's not a bad place, it just needs improvement. But I don't like places that hustle guys for ladies drinks as I consider that a scam. If you're going to allow hookers to hang out at your place be fair, don't gouge people with ladies drinks. If you need to employ scam artists to push your drinks (at fairly high prices) you need to rethink and use your imagination to offer better things for your clientele, such as quality music, good drink deals, etc. It's not that hard to do.
As far as pay for play action, I stand by earlier statement that there are much cheaper and better ways of getting laid in Dumag and they don't involve extended dating.
