True. And never forget, a lot of Filipinos have a knive with them. At all times. All my brothers in law do not leave the house without.

If you are in the smaller towns alot of guys who work in the cane fields just walk around with there machetes, including catching the jeepney while carrying them.

It's just every day life in the Province that people are carrying around knives which alot of them really shouldn't have access to!

Even in the city you will see some men bringing bolos and knives like it's part of their nature. I think there should be a law prohibiting this.

I believe they do have laws covering bladed weapons. The problem is not with the law, it is with crime prevention. Unfortunately most of the police only respond to crimes, they don't go out, make a presence and try to discourage criminal activity.

No matter there's a law, which forbid, when enforcement is lacking, any law is just a paper tiger.

    • Please refrain from using bold text. It is considered as yelling and is bad form on the internet.
"3. It is unlawful to carry outside of one's residence any bladed, pointed or blunt weapon such as "knife", "spear", "pana", "dagger", "bolo", "barong", "kris", or "chako", except where such articles are being used as necessary tools or implements to earn a livelihood or in pursuit of a lawful activity. Any person found guilty thereof shall suffer the penalty of imprisonment of not less than one month nor more than one year or a fine of not less than Two Hundred Pesos nor more than Two Thousand Pesos, or both such imprisonment and fine as the Court may direct." BATAS PAMBANSA BILANG 6

Here, laws and decrees are made in Manila and we'd be happy if some of the people in the countryside are aware of them. The Philippines is a knife culture going way back. In the latest incident, she ran back into the house and grabbed the knife. As for the woman carrying the knife into a karaoke bar, it is legal in many US states for you to carry a pistol into a bar. It is the mother's mentality that is the question. Life can be cheap here, but it is in some areas of the US too.

You can buy an Ink pen that has a sturdy, very sharp sword type blade. Just go downtown to the police/military store near Uymatiao Trading. Around 200 pesos.

Bold wasn't on. I thought it would post normally. I started typing this and it was the same way. So I clicked bold on and off. Looks better. I'll see how it posts.

I wondered about that too, why she had a knife in her bag. That's strange.
