In fact, many foreign nationals had their hearts captured by the simplicity and wonders of the scenic views and awesome tourist destinations in the region, most particularly in the Negros province.
Bais City is one of the third class cities in the province of Negros Oriental which is home to many tourist attractions. But before anything else, let us go through a brief history of the place so that you can appreciate it better once you come to Bais City.
Bais with love
Brief History of Bais City
Bais City derived its name in a funny way. The Spaniards once came across a swampy hill cradling native Filipino residents. The Spaniards asked the natives the name of the place and unfortunately, our ancestors misunderstood them for having asked what the name of their catch and directly answered “Ba-Is”. From then on, the place was called Bais by the locals and tourists. Bais City is famous for their sugar mills. They have been producing sugar since the time that the sugar industry was not yet in full bloom. They are the pioneer in producing sugar products in the locality but it was still in small amounts that can only cater to the daily needs of their own people. In fact, the Azucarera structures in Bais are still in a Spanish-style architectural design which proves its old nature. Later on, as civilization and industrialization took a major hit in the city that the residents in Bais found the opportunity to make a living out of their main agricultural produce.
Tourism in Bais City
Unique tree in the town
Bais City has many tourist destinations but the most popular among them is the Dolphin and Whale Watching. You just have to take a short bus ride from the main roads of Dumaguete City to reach Bais City and explore the wonders of nature. Bais City is gifted to have been situated near the proximity of Tañon Strait which makes its seas become a haven for friendly sea creatures that can’t be seen anywhere in the province. For adventure seekers and nature lovers, Dolphin and Whale watching is a must try. You will be voyaging through the vast ocean for about 45 minutes from the Capiñahan Wharf to Bais Bay. You will be passing through Tañon Strait where the sea creatures often appear. I suggest you do this activity when the weather is sunny because the dolphins will be livelier and can be seen vividly. You will be traversing the ocean by motorboats with well trained tour guides that will ensure your safety while you appreciate the beauty of the place. Another popular landmark of Bais City is the Central Azucarera de Bais. The residents take pride onto the name “Sugar City” and have the Central Azucarera as their main attraction. The structure of the Azucarera is very impressive having been built during the olden times when the influence of Spanish culture was still very evident in the locality. Take time to visit Bais City and you will surely have a fun-filled and memorable tour that will take you down the memory lane.
