once in a while I do really stupid things, I guess today was one of that days as I decided to clean my garden.

Instead of hire somebody for a few Peso to do the job for me I started full of energy and power in 37 Celsius (in the shade) and worked like there is no tomorrow. I got attacked by ant and insect-army's but I fought hard and won.
My garden is clean and if one leave touches the ground again i gonna cut the trees...

The only thing which really scared the sh... out of me were this Killer-spiders from Space...

Nice garden spider shots, Rhoody! Spiders help control insects. The dangerous Black Widow is found in Bondo, Siaton but so far not in Dumaguete.

What the heck is that yellow thing? can't tell what is eating who there.

I heard there where red back spiders in the Philippines, not black widows, a similar spieces, not deadly, but a painful bite.

Rhoody , the largest photo ... black spider , yellow back is called a " hapon , hapon " and is dangerous . I was told by locals you would need to visit the hospital . I can`t say for sure but the first photo , yellow spider , has the same leg structure as the " hapon , hapon " 8 legs but in sets of 2 front right, front left ...rear right , rear left . I had a a spider encounter the other day . I was doing my daily snorkelling off Stella Maries in Bacong ( near my house ) and slide into the water when I felt something near my right knee . At my house we have tons of those grasses with round spikey balls that contect to you if you walk thru the grass . Well Thats what I thought it was ...so I reached into my skin ( lycra dive suit ) and grabbed what I thought was the spikey ball . To my shock it was a 1 1/2 inch black spider . I had the skin on for 30 min . but fortunately hadn`t been bitten . I was in the water and threw it ... then observed the creature moving about in the sea . Because it hadn`t bitten me , I lifted the spider on my glove and put it on the sea wall . No worse for the experience . I also sea a hairy blonde tarantula like spider with red / brown eyes at my place but my piay gf says that one is harmless . Nice photos Rhoody . Kevin

I don't think the Hapon Hapon is that dangerous (local say Toco bites are deadly... hmmm)
Anyway, thats why I tell my students always to press the purge-button first before taking the Reg in the mouth and submerg your booties and suits for a few minutes. We are in a country where this creatures are around, I had once a nicly sized scordion in my wetsuit and we found in the morning a snake in our rinsing tanks...
... still Killer-Spiders from Space scare the sh... out of me

the hapon Hapon look almost identical to a common garden spider we have in US and in fact have identical webs and habitat.
We have these giant say 4-5" diameter brown spiders that mysteriously show up in the house from time to time. very intimidating. but maybe the family of tukaw geckos is now eating them. we have a mother father and two babys in our stair well.
