I can't believe that my home is selling so quickly and I feel so unprepared for the move to Negros Oriental. I'm not sure if everyone goes through this or not, but as I look around at everything I need to do, the things I need to pack, and all I need to sell...well, my heart ends up in my throat. I didn't realize how much stress takes you over. I've moved several times through-out the United States, but this is only the second time I've moved overseas for a long term plan. The last time I lived overseas was when I lived in Germany for three years, and that was back in the late 70's. Retirement is sometimes a b*tch, but overseas relocation is a bit more daunting. I'm glad we have this site for some initial preparation, but if there are other things people can think of to help, please send us a private message, or post a comment here. Bye the way.....YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    Tom

Hello tfa1957; my only advice is, you take it easy. Life is too short. I know, my husband and I have been through this before moving around from state to state and from small city to big city, and ohhh the pressure and stress are overwhelming. Thank God it's over now. But, if we have to move again, I will certainly chose Dumaguete.

    Hi Tom,
I can only lead you to to know someone who moves from Italy to dumaguete who may not call his journey a "Joy of Stress".
I don't remember exactly his Italian name but he is an operator of an authentic Pizza shop named "Bonissisimo" and a small resort south of Dumaguete.
In the first place, his wife is not from Dumaguete but they purchased a lot in Dauin. They did not moved only by their basic household needs but also his treasured aviation items.
To make you awe, he brought with him to Dumaguete his light weight airplanes and a 20 or 30 seater private plane which was re-assembled and converted into a restaurant now in his resort.
Not only that, he brought the unused engine/parts including (bolt and nut), hangar and old tools from his plane garage and it was brought to dumaguete in more than 10 vans by sea freight.

It was tough for them but they made it to dumaguete.

I am not in Dumaguete now but i hope someone from the forum know this guy and give you his email address so that you can have a first hand information.

Good luck and thanks for choosing my Dumaguete your next place to stay!

    Boom,
I guess you talk about flight 2000 resort, what was (only in that 4 years I am here now) many times closed, reopened and always for sale?
His place in Duma is next to BPI Bank, would not call it authentic but good stuff to find there...
The story of that place is not very encouraging for anybody, but if it helps, that was the number...

    Flight Resort 2000 San Miguel,
    Bacong 424-056011.

    cheers

I look forward to it, and we can at least talk about how you'd be able to teach Peg-leg Pete how to swim & dive.....but you have to pretend to be sober while talking about it. The plans are coming along nicely. The house is being inspected for the buyers next week and if all goes well, then we move full steam ahead with the sale. At that point, I'll be looking into shipping for our personal goods, airplane tickets for the 2 dogs and me and set up a big moving sale... piece of cake (I was looking for an icon that looks like I'd have sweat pouring off me, but don't see one, but you get the picture anyway). It will all come together in due time and then I can sit back a bit and enjoy.

Congratulations Tom. I hope your move goes as smoothly as possible.
If you don't mind sharing, how many parcels and what service(s) are you using? Please don't reveal exactly what you're bringing (no point attracting too much attention) but just quantity and method.
    Thanks.

Tom, in my case it was a decision in a very short time.
After the house was sold I was on the plane to here within 14 days !!
I did luckily not have any chance to get stressed, although it took quite some nerves and energy to pack all things and arrange transport of belongings, write all relatives a letter/email, follow all the required bureaucracy and so on.
    Sitting in my airplane seat was sooooooooo relaxing;
Knowing that I had managed to do the most necessary things and that a whole new existence was soon going to unfold for me.
Enjoy it Tom, but also count on some disappoinments.
Take a year the time and then judge if it has been a good move.
    I am ,Tom.
Sitting here in the sun at the boulevard or any other nice place, with that terrible thought of an icecold beer in front of you , must be a not toooo terrifying picture.
    Good luck
