    Hi Rita,

Thanksgiving is traditional holiday held in the USA, usually on the last Thursday of November. The reason its on a Thursday is so that working people can have a 4 day weekend. Its also the start of the Christmas shopping season in the USA. I'm not exactly sure how it began, but I think it started with the Pilgrims way back when they Brits first came to America aboard the Mayflower, and they were so thankful that they all arrived in one piece, so they celebrated their good luck by cooking Turkey. So, ever since then, the Americans cook Turkey with all the trimmings (stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, etc) on Thanksgiving day. Of course, this year, there is not much to be thankful for, what with the financial meltdown and all, but for those of us in Dumaguete, we can be thankful that we live in Paradise. I think this is a better explanation that the one that Rhoody gave, albeit a little long.

    Hi Rita,
Thanksgiving is a traditional holiday held usually on the last Thursday of November in the USA, and probably everywhere else in the world where there are American expats. Its origin dates back to when the Pilgrims from England first landed in America aboard the Mayflower. There were so happy that they all arrived in one piece, that they celebrated by cooking Turkey. Ever since then, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day by cooking Turkey. For us living in Dumaguete, lets be thankful what we live in Paradise.

    Hello!

Really thank you for your responses. I think for first I will go to this dentist. Could you give me more details to find her? (Name, name of the street, number phone.)
And if she can't do a dental surgeon, she will give me the best direction to do that? Right?

Actually the reason for the Thanksgiving celebration is a little more deeper than Dauincflyers quick summery. The pilgrams after arriving were having problems trying to grow the crops they brought with them from England and most of their animals had died and after one or two years and some very rough winters their food situation was not very good. To make a long story short the Pilgrams had befriended some American Indians who showed them what crops would grow better in their new homeland and which animals to hunt for food. After those bad years and every year since Thanksgiving is a celebration feast of frindship and thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest, a combination of American Indian generosity and european harvest festivities. I am proud to say this is one of Americas better traditions which is why so many american expats are apprehensive about it. I say keep the tradition going and make it your special celebration using what is available where you happen to be, to others it will be another day of copious food and sharing which should go over very well no matter where you are.
