Hi Rita, Thanksgiving is traditional holiday held in the USA, usually on the last Thursday of November. The reason its on a Thursday is so that working people can have a 4 day weekend. Its also the start of the Christmas shopping season in the USA. I'm not exactly sure how it began, but I think it started with the Pilgrims way back when they Brits first came to America aboard the Mayflower, and they were so thankful that they all arrived in one piece, so they celebrated their good luck by cooking Turkey. So, ever since then, the Americans cook Turkey with all the trimmings (stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, etc) on Thanksgiving day. Of course, this year, there is not much to be thankful for, what with the financial meltdown and all, but for those of us in Dumaguete, we can be thankful that we live in Paradise. I think this is a better explanation that the one that Rhoody gave, albeit a little long.
