No problem getting back and forth to the US if you get back before 6 months. You can stay out of the country with a green card for a year but, they can ask you why did you stay out so long and ultimately deny your entry if they desire.

The other way is to go to the Immigration office in the US and tell them that you and your wife (green card) will be out of the country (US) for over a year and will need a stamp or some kind of visa extension.

I suggest that you go look at the requirements for extending green card visas and also you might want to go to the local immigration office and talk with them about your situation.

Cyndi is correct, you would be smart to look into all of these details.

Well we have an appointment with the ins tommorrow the 28th. I am going to ask for a waiver for the time she spent trying to straighten out the mess the ins made of her original change of status petition in 2001.
BTW I plan tyo sell the car and boat. To much aggravation.

I would not tell the INS that you are permanently moving out of the States. Just tell them that it might be for a year or two and that you are retiring and or starting a new business here in the Philippines but, the US is and always will be your main home. Once the business picks up in the Philippines, you plan on moving back to the States and just make quarterly visits, etc. Otherwise, they will probably try to screw you!
