Yeah I may die soon Rhoody. Its been one month with a cold, flu, turned upper respiratory infection. Think it's going away now, but the dirt, dust, burning leaves, smoke has I think prolonged it. I don't think the pollution from cars and cycles is as bad here as made out by others. Bacolod has a grey cloud hanging over its downtown. Dumaguete is not there yet.

There are other mitigating factors, not the least the trash and leaf burning that goes on constantly. People think its a great use for old tires to start a pile of wet leaves on fire! The other factor is I believe the natural polutants from the Talinas sulfer vents. Sometimes this steamy cloud descends on the outlying areas of Dumaguete, many just think it is a big trash fire down the road. but when there is a temperature inversion, all that stuff is held close to the ground in the boundary layer zone. (The area under about 400-600 AGL). Sometime on a not so foggy day look up at the mountain and you can see the plumes of steam from the PNOC area. Normally going straight up. It is not all day or every day but if you keep watch you can see it.
And if you are lucky enough to live in Balugo there is the Dumaguete city dump buring almost every day.

Downtown, the traffic is no doubt the biggest contributor, but not the only one in greater Dumaguete.

The trash burning is really what bothers me the most. And its used a a political wreapon. Don't P.O. your neighbors, or the next time the wind blows toward your house, they will suddenly decide to burn their pile of wet leaves.

    Other than that it paradise:D

Oh well , my grand father had lived partly in Valencia and he reached a 103,it's the sulfur vapor clouds that descends i think that poisoned him and those fumes of burnt leaves ,poor ol' man he's joined the dead team too young .

Honestly,i am against of burning of leaves and rubbish, people just don't understand of their acts, and no strong supporting drive from the govt to educate people .I don't know if environmental lessons are injected into the children's school curriculum, because that helps.
When we last clear up the valencia lot,I said to the few locals hired not to burn the leaves and the cut shrubs but only to pile them in far corners to rot.I am not living there yet so it's not important for me to see big piles of them around, but even so I would not burn biodegradable rubbish.

The test for high Carbon Monoxide in the bloodstream is to pinch your fingertip at the fingernail. If the pressure area stays white but the area above and below turn red quickly than its a good sign of CO poisoning.

I come for visit, get treated regal,
So I stay, who cares, I illegal.
I cross border, poor & broke,
    Take bus, see employment folk.
Nice man treat me good in there,
Say I need to see welfare,
Welfare say, "you come no more
we send cash right to your door."
Welfare checks they make you wealthy,
    Medicaid, it keep you healthy.
By & by, I got plenty money
    ,
    Thanks to you, American dummy.
    Write to friends in Motherland,
Tell them come, as fast as you can,
They come in rags & chevvy trucks,
I buy big house, with welfare bucks.
They come here, we live together,
More welfare checks, it gets better!
    Fourteen families they moving in,
    But neighbours patience wearing thin.
    Finally, white guy moves away,
Now I buy his house, & then I say,
Find more for house to rent,
And in the yard I put a tent.
Send for family (they just trash),
But they, too, drawthe welfare cash!
    Everything is much good,
And soon we own the neighbourhood.
    We have hobby--it's called breeding,
    Welfare pay for baby feeding,
Kids need dentist? Wife need pills?
We get free! We got no bills!
American crazy! He pay all year,
    To keep welfare, running here
We think America darn good place,
Too darn good for the white man race,
If they no like us, they can go,
Got lots of room in Mexico.

no real air mpolution in dumaguete away from the centre
but there will be if all these people want malls etc and taxis
if the city expands anymore then watch out
worst place i have ever been for pollution is Bangkok and Chiang Mai in the summer when they burn the rice fields
e ven manilla is nowhere near as bad as bangkok
I belive this is becaseu of its relative lack og high rise builkdings and wider avenues. high rises and narrow streets trap the air
