Well im not gonna rewrite this whole thing again. but there are alarms in the chibna store east of mcdonalds, cost a buck and uses batteries. doors and windows when opened the sencor magnet comes apart and it beeps. if batteries are good its loud enough to wake. The part I wont bother is much more advanced and will show you or try to explain it. involves shotgun shell less the shot just the wad left in it or rock salt, string, pulleys, 2feet pipe. doors windows .

ok, now isee my problem with posting will explain agian in more detail. The shotgun shell slips into the pipe, to hold it in place weld a ring on the pipe and drill 2 holes oposing each other, a doughnut fit over the pipe end. ok, now a solid flat piece of metal with a hole drilled in the center for the nail to strike the primer, to place the solid will need 2 hole drilled for the small bolts to screw into the doghnut rings nut on the back side. a spring located to force the nail quick a safety pin for the spring nail mechanism, a string downwards to the pulley then across the front of the entrance to doors windows etc. when tripped over string is pulled and pin is released nail hits primer and boom. your awake and thief will need to empty his pants. few other ideas for help if you want to pm me or will see you sometime in town. Once I got upset coz my bananas kept getn stole for couple years, took a piece of plwood, sharpened a bunch of nails and laid the 2 pieces beside my tree, lot of yelling and commotion going on one night, but have been able since then to walk to garden are and have bananas now. hahah

Jellyfish and Manza (John and Mark), my friend's wife is only 20 or 21 yrs old, she should have woke him but she was afraid he would get shot, but he is a former marine sniper and would want the opportunity to protect his wife with his life. He needs a d*mn dog.
I think if he had to shoot someone outside his property, he better drag the guy back into his property, no way would I want to challenge the PI court system on that one.
Lessons learned from my friend's event, expect sh*t to happen and be prepared, I made a few modifications, we are targets, a fact of life here.

True! It is better to keep a low profile and don't advertise what you have.

Pat, a few years back a friend of mine heard noises and went to investigate armed with a hammer. The intruder took the hammer off him in the struggle and used it on him!
Also my point about protecting your house to such extreme levels that you cant get out in an emergency is something to consider.
Thanks for your concern Jim, we came out OK of the fire, but it was a close thing and apart from smoke damage, the house is unscathed. Just wouldn't like it to happen to anyone else, that why I made the point. I thank God for his mighty protection......JB

There are more people in dumaguete murdered in their own walls than dying in fire... not even talking about robbed. My vote goes for grills

I was robbed 5 times in the early 2000's and could never understand why my dog, Blue heeler, never made a noise. After the last time, when they carted out my washing machine while I was sleeping, past the dog and my Gf did not want to wake me for the same reasons as PAT's friend, I moved.

Same time, GF and I split up and she "borrowed" a digital camera. Eventually, I was able to "purchase it back" and she had forgotten to erase the photos she had taken.

Lo and behold, here are photos of her and friends with my stolen stuff in the background on the camera (I could identify it by some stickers on some of it)

The local cops were friends so I popped over and informed them of the situation and the fact that my ex GF had just received a large some of cash. :D

They "invited" her in for questioning and she spent 3 days in their tiny little lock up totally at their mercy. I won't go into the details but they had a smile on their faces and she left with dignity and wallet empty and with a clear message to go back to cebu, where she was from ..

She is now married to some poor sod, living in Australia. wonder if she ever told him the story ..

Turns out that when I was not around (which was often as I travelled a lot), her friends were hanging around the house, hence the dog knew them, so lesson learn't with dogs and who the dog comes in contact with. You just gotta be there ..

Pat, I like your friends style, giving up and hiding is just not the way here. The nails in the grass around the bananas is the way to go, :D. It is such a shame that he has to live in an aggressive manner just to protect his rights. Maybe electrifying the Door or window handles will do the trick

I would also be very wary of any Cop or NBI guy making broad statements that it is ok to kill someone if they enter your house. Self Defense is a hard argument to win, and where will be his witnesses. He will be one person and for sure, they will drag out a ton of witnesses who were there, can all see clearly in the dark and will debunk the truth. The family can still file criminal charges with out the intervention of the cops and you are perceived guilty in this country until you prove your innocence. I can see a lot of holes that would leave you friend at risk and sorry, but in my humble experience, I am sure the NBI and Cop hope that someone does, it would be a real good opportunity for them to make a nice earn as well.

I moved to Dumaguete from Angeles because of the killings, robberies, it was too much. I think Dumaguete is a paradise compared to there . I have no bars, dogs (at the moment) or alarm systems and enjoy the perceived freedom

I really hope your friend considers relocating so that he may enjoy his life in this beautiful country in peace. If he does hurt someone, even if on his property and he is in the right, they can file charges against him over and above the police and make his life miserable for years at no cost to them. I just had a friend go through the same issue. He ended up having to pay to make it go away and the culprits got off scott free. A real pisser.

PP, thanks for sharing those experiences. I hope my friend's robbery was not an inside job. My wife's family are 90 kilometers away in the boondocks with no vehicles at all, just a carabao, so if I see a carabao parked outside, I will lock and load. lol

To those who choose to have a firearm. If you use it and kill someone don't try to move the body, the police will know and it will be interpreted as evidence that you are trying to cover something up. When the police arrive request that you have a lawyer present before you make any kind of statement. If a cop acts friendly and says things like he had it coming absolutely shut up. He is not your friend.
Years ago I had a policeman friend who killed a bad guy and he had to pay blood money to the family to avoid revenge.
