..I have heard from a friend living in Casa Alicia that the hoodlums hanging around outside his fence tried to kill his dog.

How about electrifying those inside mounted bars at night or when you're away from house?

    Zzzzt !

Thanks for all the posts, good ideas. We have someone in the house 24/7 and with bolted screen and house doors plus all window grills, the interior is safely secured but if someone wants in they could find a way I'm sure. I have a gun on order. It is the idea of a perp inside my compound regardless of trying to break in or a peeping tom pervert that pisses me off and is unacceptable. I have motion lights by my doors, will expand to all corners of the house. The Bacong PNP told me break ins are common, mostly young dudes. Only reasonable entry point is from the front so that can be addressed.

I would go with a 3 wire electric fence on top of your existing fence. They make stainless wire just for it and it doesn't give your place the "penitentiary look". It can run off of a battery, so power outages are of no concern. Just need to keep the battery charged up, with a trickle or solar charger. If it can contain 1000 lb cattle it will keep out a 100 lb dripping wet Filipino! :D

The break in at my sister-in-laws place was during the broad daylight and I believe the high wall around the place was a contributing factor to why it was chosen or deemed doable. I would go with the bigger dog and maybe two of them. Make it expensive for them if they decide to drug them.

Pat, sorry to hear you've already been targeted - but it often doesn't take long in the sticks...Anyway, hope you never have to use the gun....but don't f'ing embarrass our Marine Corps and wound him...
Good luck and hope you work out an effective security regime...

    Dog suggestion

Great suggestions having been through a burglary before I built my current house and I offer this thought that seems to be effective and terrorizes the locals. First post a no trespassing dangerous dogs sign. The large black dog idea works but instead of a doberman or attack dog how about one that will be easily trained to bark at anything around your perimeter but won't eat your children. A large black lab will make the neighbors fear you and when on a leash the locals definitely scatter (personal experience). The police told me the same thing about the perps being teenagers and a 15 year old crawled through an Aussie's window while he was in the shower so it isn't just the night time invasion. The Lab will definitely let you know if anything is within range.

    Razor Wire!

 Hi pat, while I am not a lover of these things (Illegal in Europe now) I guess your Perminter Walls are high enough to have rolled razor wire on the top. If erected propery and good quality, I have seen some good results and it does not look too unsightly. Great shame that we have to think of these things BUT that is they way the world is going, Back to the middle ages. The Rich get Richer and the Poor stay Poor, the end result is what you have experienced my friend.:(

    Oh yes!

Hi Swapstar, Jack P. here, I agree with you totally, we have a Sable Labrador and she is so alert it is unbelievable, if anyone does not heed her barking, the 2 Jack Russell Crosses will teach them a lesson.

LOL...we've got a Jack Russell....butterflies are not allowed to land in the yard since we got it...megastars for guts and alertness...and pint-sized heroes that don't give ground.....We haven't had any problems since getting it....even kills the bees - which I do find problematic when I want my veggies and fruit trees pollinated.

    Ankle Snappers.

As you can see my 2 are crosses and a little on the big side for Jack's but then maybe twice as bad for the thief! LOL
