For some reason the ferries have been packed tight and leaving early the last few days.

My friend went to visit Siquijor for the weekend and wanted to head back to Dumaguete on the last boat of the day. Arriving at the ticket window 20 minutes before the sailing they would not sell him a ticket because they were already full.

This morning a different friend wanted to go on the Maayo (8 am schedule) barge Sibulan to Liloan. He arrived at 7:45 (I was there to say goodbye so I know the time was right) and the Maayo barge was 5 minutes out in the channel already. It must have filled up and left early.

So I suggested he take the Fast Craft. But by the time we got to the ticket window at 7:47 the Fast Craft was just pulling out. I guess they were full too. When I asked at the ticket window if they were putting on any extra sailings due to being so busy, the lady said: "No, take pump boat at 8:30"

I remember another friend, may he R.I.P. who ALWAYS showed up at the Maayo barge at the very last minute and expected to get on with his motorcycle. I would tell him he should get here early in case they are full one day and his reply was "Its only a motorcycle, they can always make room for a motorcycle." I wish he was still with us so I could say "I toldja so!"

As far as Maayo on the Sibulan - Lilo An is concerned, really unpredictable. When I am on time, the ferry leaves with delay up till 20 min. When I am a bit late (only 5 min.), like last week Monday, the ferry was already leaving from the pier, so luck was not on my side. But have to admit being on time about 30 min. before departure will guarantee a ticket.

I think it is best to not plan, especially in the Philippines. "Just wing it" has always been my travel motto in the Philippines (and pretty much everywhere else). I can't recall a single port in the Philippines that didn't have at least a few Red Horse beers for sale nearby in case you missed the ferry.
