The only way to do this is to blow up the old pic and walk the streets, there are some old spanish buildings dotted around town, so for sure there would be surviving buildings down the years. I looked at the website link, I see washing the clothes in the river is still the same!

Talking of this subject, the city authorities do not seem to mind about planning, anyone can build anything, squatters can pitch anywhere, colon ext is a good example of non existant regulations people have built everywhere, even over existing pathways once you could get a pedi down it now you have to squeeze thru to walk it! what about the fire service casn it get everywhere these days? I even saw a small house built over some public steps!

    Silliman University Old Photo

The original building of Silliman University is still there. It is used today as a museum maintained by the Anthropology Department of Silliman University. The lower level houses the Office of Business and Finance of the University. I had a postcard that showed the American Flag on the original building.

i dont think so. becoz the original 1901 building of silliman is still there. it may have been a shoreline back then. but i believe the city only added the breakwater which is now known as the "boulevard". as long as i can remember, the boulevard's breakwater was added where the shoreline ends. nothing has been reclaimed other than the harbor which has not changed so much since 20 years ago. it still accommodate fairly large sea vessels or oceanliners like the US ship "Doulus" back in 1980s.

mommyseksi; sorry also for the delayed reply. Yes, I think it was a picture taken from a camera and not just a painting.

A friend once emailed me a photo of the Dumaguete bellfry and cathedral published in a very old National Geographic magazine (I forgot the year but can be accessed if one has the Nat Geog archives). The photo showed a beach in front of the bellfry! I suspect that the City Hall is on reclamation land.
