No oppressive heat in SE Asia?? Let me interest you in some affordable land in Mongolia or S. Korea.

It all depends on your what definition of oppressive heat is. All the coastal areas of SE Asia are hot and humid. The temperatures at mid day are usually in the high 80s to low 90s. Not as hot as the American SW but usually very humid. The only way to escape the heat is to go to higher elevations, ie. Bagio in the Philippines or the Malaysian highlands. I spend most of my time near the sea so am not an expert but I have found the mountain areas cool and unpleasantly damp but other people find it agreeable.
What are your other criteria for a retirement location? There is a vast amount of experience on this site and many of us have lived in other places around Asia. You will receive a lot of opinions often contradictory but honestly offered here. So ask away.
It is good that you are planning a visit and hope you have the time to really sample the place. Pulling up stakes and moving half way around the world based on a 2 week vacation experience is really rolling the dice.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.
