    Chose Bethel in the end...

I decided to go with Bethel in the end mainly due to the Blvd location. I had a great overall experience and would highly recommend Bethel for any first-time Dumaguete visitor as I was. From the complimentary airport pick-up to the very clean rooms and resonable prices in the lobby coffee shop as well as the excellent customer service I received it was the right choice...for me. Now that I know the town a little bit better I would probably go further out and explore other options but if you're new to the area the Bethel is hard to beat...

I ve been here for almost two years, so i found bethel a second options. :-) there is a nicanor or vintage inn. they're less expensive yet so much to offer. anyway, i dont stay much in hotels and their cafes cause the city offers much of them.

You are probably already here. But, since others will read this thread in the future, I suggest Hotel Palwa over Bethel, especially if you are a drinker. Bethel doesn't allow alcohol in the hotel. Nor does it allow smoking. (I don't think Palwa allows smoking in any rooms, either.)

I don't smoke, although I did for four years. However, I believe smokers have rights and should be accommodated as well, in a hotel.

I actually do smoke and didn't find the non-smoking issue a problem (you're correct that Palwa doesn't allow in-room smoking as well). As for Bethel there are patio balconies on each floor so you can go out of the room and have a smoke overlooking the sea...especially the 5th floor patio which is quite nice. There were signs about alcohol but I don't think there is an issue with bringing a few bottles of SM into your room. As I stated this was my observation from a first-time visitor with the central location/view being key.

    Stay at the Nicanor.

My Friends came from California when I was there a few weeks ago.I put Them up at the Nicanor and it was a good choice.A very nice, clean hotel with some of the nicest rooms I've seen in Dumaguete, much nicer than the Bethel.I stayed at the Bethel the first two years that I was coming there in 2003-2004.During that time the Bethel may have been the nicest hotel in town, but not anymore. Take Rhoody's advice,if not mine. The Palwa is nice, and so is Obdulia's,but You can't go wrong with The Nicanor..

    Getting lucky in Duma ...

AHA ... there's the answer to another possible situation - I know that Bethel do not allow overnight lady guests ... seems like that's not a problem at Nicanor? Confirmation would be appreciated! Thanks Rhoody.

I am staying for a week from Friday 21st Aug - want to catch the weekend action. Any views on where to start?

    Cheers
    Adrian
