    thanks for your post re bird books, A reasonably good one is A Photographic Guide to the birds of Southeast Asia including Philippines and Borneo,author is Morton Strange published by Christopher Helm of London. I bought mine in UK before coming here and the only place I have seen it for sale since was in a wetlands centre in the new territories in Hong Kong. Maybe the book shop here can order you one, hope this helps.

    Like you I never saw that many birds in the area......UNTIL I installed reflective glass in my house windows..... now everyday I get dozens of birds marking their territory..... usually black and white starling type birds.....they swoop down and attack the "other bird" in the window....regular as clock work they rattle and fluster...... you want some you're welcome to some of mine.....I have plenty to spare

    If you plant some grains or put out a feeder.... they will show up

    Hi Kojak, sounds like they are white throated fantails I have males here that also display in my tinted car windows or the wing mirrors I think they are territorial displays. Have you put bird feeders in your garden or feed on the ground?

    Feeding them???.....no..... but I doubt it would reduce the "window wars".... the birds hierarchy of needs seems to be procreation over eating....

    I do not mind but it drives my wife nuts..... actually that is more like a short walk than a drive

    Thanks for the information Colin. I will endeavor to find that book also or similar. If I can I will avoid the tinted windows, a mirror placed in a suitable position in the Garden might attract or distract those Fantails. Take care :smile:

    I found that book ( A Photographic Guide to the birds of Southeast Asia including Philippines and Borneo, author is Morton Strange published by Christopher Helm of London) here in the UK on the amazon. ( Thanks Colin)
    £10 (700P) including the postage.
    It states that there are 565 species of Bird that reside and visit the Philippines and that there are 169 endemic to the Philippines Birds.(Wow)
    Some of these greatly endangered :( others thriving :D

    Take care all :D:smile::D

    Walking this morning and a flightless bird ran across the road quickly into the next stream of underbrush...thought it was chicken at first with funny stride then saw the beak was larger by 3 times length for body to beak ratio of chickens and nicely curved...Flightless birds are rare indeed and this was in the city suburbs of bacolod in talisay.....Dont know the name....It had a stub of a tail and was brown as a tree...
