DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Philippines—Two public elementary schools suspended classes while work at government offices here was disrupted Thursday when the Dumaguete City police received a bomb threat in a text message.

Senior Inspector Eduardo Oira, Dumaguete City acting chief of police, said the text message sent to the police office hotline at 11:23 a.m. claimed that three men from Mindanao would be planting bombs in five areas and the bombs would explode within 24 hours.

The areas mentioned in the text messages were the West City Elementary school on Cervantes St.; the City Central School on Sta. Catalina St., beside the Dumaguete City hall; the Legislative Building beside the Negros Oriental provincial capitol; and the Mother of Perpetual Help Church and the United Church of Christ in the Philippines church along the San Jose Ext., all in Dumaguete City.

Oira said the bomb squad of the Negros Oriental provincial police was dispatched to the five areas but the police did not find any bomb.

The classes in the West City Elementary School and the City Central School were suspended and the students were sent home while the employees occupying the legislative building were asked to leave.

The regular session of the Dumaguete City council held at 2 p.m. was also suspended.

Oira said they assigned policemen to beef up security in the areas mentioned and other areas in the city.

Major General Vicente Porto, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, has ordered his brigade and battalion commanders to coordinate with the police and provide assistance, if needed.

well, in that case the schools did (for the philippines) a surprising good job to send the kids home without drama and all popularity gathering we all know from many "events". The kids did not know why and all was calm.

    well done

    Be Vigilant

Just to say in Europe and USA there is a heightened level of warning with regards to GLOBAL terrorists. This episode could well have been a test of the local security reaction to such a warning. A hoax that will involve
Schools and Churches. There are for sure some warped deluded monsters around.
