Any thought given to alternative energy sources? Off-the-grid would be spectacular although even a photovoltaic grid-tied system would be very impressive.

    Good Morning Sunshine....

Dear All , They houses that will be shown at the Show site will be fully self sufficient with implementation of Shell Solar.. Shell Solar is a Shell Oil Company , also from the Netherlands. The Solar Panels are developed in The Netherlands as well , meaning with the little sun they have overthere . the technique is focused on capture every little ray of sunlight into the panel cells. Thus guarantee even to function while there is more clouds then sun to be deteced, .Likely we will start out earlier as planned due to the huge request from the side of the Municipalities........

    Energy saving tips...
    Use energy saver bulbs everywhere
    Solar water heater
    High ceilings
    Vent windows between rooms
Very important is to have a well ventilated attic
Basic layout and orientation of the structure, taking into consideration which rooms will be the warmest during different times of the day
Strategically planted trees for shading the house.

    These considerations are mandatory IMHO

That's good news Earl. I've been trying to estimate electrical usage and it seems that a 1400W PV system should suffice. I'm looking forward to more info about these houses.
The Australian government has put together an excellent website about low-impact housing. I especially liked the section on passive design.

Have no advises regarding type of house and how to build one at the beach side. But if you look for a location at the beach, we are starting selling lots on a beachpark, 24 km south of Dumaguete.
(Hope this reaction is within the forum rules
