When we are driving with a rented car, do we need permission from the traffic police or the owner of the car to bring the car over to Cebu island?

All that we have ever been asked for is a copy of OR/CR. They don't check to see if the person driving is the owner, etc...

Original Receipt and Certificate of Registration, what you must carry in your car at all times to give to the nice officer to keep him from impounding your car!

legally you can only leave with a rented car the island if it has one of the "rainbow plates". There are only 2 or three rental cars like that in Dumaguete.

You probably don't have problems with another rented car to go on the ferry ,but if you get into a traffic control in Cebu you might be in trouble

    New Lite Ferry

    New Additional Ferry
When I came back from Cebu on the Maayo ferry in a car last week, my driver told me there is a new car ferry and we saw it loading a car. It is called Lite Ferry and located just north of Maayo about a qtr kilometer. Don't have any additional info like where it lands on the Cebu side. it is a small ferry.
This article from the Sun back in Nov. talked about Lite Ferries Cebu to Bohol and mentioned they would be adding more ferries including to Negros.

Maybe the car has the "rainbow plates". We rent the car from Dumaguette Cars. We do not drive it into Cebu City, just to Moalboal.

Lite Ferries in Cebu side just N of Mayoo in Bato. They have 3 ferries now, depart every full hour from both sides. They have nice promo prices, bike return 170 PHP, driver+passenger included, ticket valid 1 week; less than half of Mayoo price. I asked how long promo period, nobody can tell. Travel time same.

Don't make it too complicated. I think it doesn't matter if you have a rented car or not so long as you pay Maayo shipping its rate. I don't remember that office asking a lot of questions.

you are of course totally correct....

considering you don't care at all that your car might be taken away in a traffic control

just give them a call which one you get, they have cars with "rainbow plate" and without.
