Yes Mel, it is true, they actually make coffee out of cat sh*t. I saw it on TV recently. I'm a die hard coffee drinker but even I would pass on that one. YUCK!

Years ago, there was "fake coffee" (poor man's coffee) in Dumaguete made from roasted and ground corn! It was cheap and I liked its aroma. Is it still around?

There is a good Dumaguete perspective to this. Excellent Philippine coffee is available at Cafe Antonio, near the waterfront. It is reasonably priced for home consumption. I brought a package back to Ottawa with me and mixed it with my usual Folger's at about 1:4 with excellent results. The unique flavour still comes through. You can also buy "native" coffee at the Dumaguete City Market. You'll have to roast it yourself. You can have it ground at about 4 pesos/kilo at a stall on the Colon Extension.

    Enjoy!

The new movie, "Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman has an interesting aspect dealing with coffee in the movie. By the way, pretty good movie.
