Thank you guys for all the options and places. Most places I can surely find but really have no clue where to find Optimum Trader.

My problem with the street dealers is that they always start at a low rate and I have to stand there to negotiate every time, even with the guy I would always deal with. And as grandpainak said, I would meet them in the bank. Too much hassle every time for me. And who knows who is watching them. They have been robbed 3 times that I know of.

Not trying to be negative, The street dealers have always been very nice. But more privacy can't hurt.

    Agreed !

 Have to Agree on this one, It seems that they are the only ones that have Stocks of Euros when I need them, for me they are good, I guess the Dollar is available more readily at others but their rates are good, service good also I found.

I change money weekly and check the current rate via my mobile at time of ex-change. Changer downstairs at Lee Plaza is best for USD, usually the rate is .1 php less than current trading rate. They update their rate every hour. Have also changed at Robinson, service has been fine at both.

I didn't mention the banks because don't use them as the exchange rates are better outside the bank, however, banks in Dumaguete do offer exchange services at least for US Dollars. I know PNB and the BDO branch at Robinson's offer Dollar-Peso exchange and probably other banks as well.

Optimum Trader is downtown next to Golden Roy Lechon Manok Restaurant and across the street from Nuat Thai Massage. I don't know the street name, but a Google search says it is Pinili Street and lists this phone number: +63 35 225-4637

So they are doing what they do out of the goodness of their hearts? I guess if you don't question their sources it is easy for some but not for me. And I am willing to bet they would not tell you their source of cash anyway.

out of the goodness of their hearts?

"So they are doing what they do out of the goodness of their hearts? I guess if you don't question their sources it is easy for some but not for me. And I am willing to bet they would not tell you their source of cash anyway."

So tell me, "So why should I be concerned about where their sources are?"
I sure they do it for the same reasons the banks and other places do, PROFIT?
Another reason I do it in the bank is to make sure I do not get handed any counterfeit bills.
I'm still wondering why it is a bad thing to deal with the man on the street?
So Pedro, please enlighten my ignorant @ss, I'm new here you know.

Jim, I have heard that the profits from the street money changers goes to NPA.

Someone else also confirmed this and posted from DI. maybe i am wrong. prove it.

I have been exchanging with the same man on the street for more than 20 years. So if there were any truth in the "NPA" thing surly he would have been arrested long before NOW. I believe that the rumor about the money going to support the NPA is nothing more that bull sh*t. Probably started by a greedy @ss BANKER.

I changed a few hu8ndred US earlier this month. Street guys, some of whom I know, offered 42. I continued on to Optimum and got 42.40, a few centavos less than I was offered at Lee Plaza basement. I took it rather than walk back to Lee Plaza. I guess if you bargain hard you can get a decent rate out of the street guys but why bother.
