Surely you know your own neighbourhood, you got to judge it for yourself, or go out with someone, Sometimes in life you got work it out on your own.

well yabs, what PhilT said is right. i usually walk around alone, i usually stay in our house by the boulevard but sometimes we stay over in the apartment in bantayan. during the day it's okay but at night my hubby prefers that he's around... just in case. it's usually safe but then again don't take my word for it. i mean, different people have different experiences.

Yabs I stayed in Daeo once, quite a while ago, yes I would not want to walk anone at night in the interior of Daro, its got more populated over the years, this is one of those things, ie "ts probably okay but you never know" no matter where I am I try to do my homework, and get to know a place or people, okay its easier for a man alone, but then again a foreigner is more vulnerable. Once I was at a barrio party/ barbecue and some pinoy were talking in a bunch, then one came up to me and showed me a 1000 peso note and asked me if I could change it for him, I said SURE! and took out my very small wallet and fiddled around and eventually came up with 25 pesos total! thats the way to show folk that you travel light! or have not got any big cash on you! make out that you are broke,it sort of works.

It quickly got around after a while and my neice told me that they call me the poor foreigner around the neighbourhood....suits me!

The thing that concerned me about living in Dgte permanently is that there's only 2 cities on the entire island that criminals could (1) come to without being immediately spotted as a suspicious stranger, and (2) have any hopes of stealing anything worthwhile.

    Dumaguete and Bacolod

While this may be an oversimplification, it's basically true, as one of my old neighbors recently agreed.

With drug use creeping up rather than down, the long term scenario didn't appeal to me.

According to this story, Dumaguete is the most peaceful city in the Philippines.

Between the drug users filtching for extra money, and the rowdy college kids, it seemed to be slowly getting worse. That one poor FilAm college student was hunted down about a year or so ago and shot right off his scooter.

Bandit, that one poor FilAm college student wasn't hunted down. He's my friend ok. Don't phrase things carelessly. There's more to the story.
