Some of you foreigners have lived here in the region a long time. I am curious how it was, from your points of view, 15-20 years ago. I know there has been little investment outside of Robinsons so it must have been very remote. Were there many motorbikes like today or just bicycles? Was the boulevard here? Was the hiway paved all the way to Bayawan? Thanks for sharing.

    See the Link!

 Hi pat, Got a fair bit on to-day but wanted to join you on this, I have sent you a PM to Yahoo with a Link that you may find interesting.
Hope to read some interesting replys on this thread, as I think we will have differing viewpoints on the past and present.

Thanks Jack, the news articles were brief. Not surprising, drug issues appeared to be ongoing headlines.

Pat, I found that searching the Chronicle some time ago I got in to the Kept Copy pages of the year I wanted, it was 1966, I just wanted to see what was going on that year and any coverage there was of the World CUP (Football) Surprisingly enough England did get a mention (England Won That year) It was the year Azon was born and I wanted to Get a copy for the scrap Book. I had some success, so maybe you could, if you have time, have a look around the paper sites and see what you come up with, I can't remember as I sit and write what I did to find these archives but they are there. Just hit a Year on the Paper site. I think maybe you have given yourself a project here, as the more you read and hear, the more you will get interested.

I will read your update posts with interest.

I arrived in '95. No internet here then, but at that point I'd never touched a computer anyway. Nothing open 24 hours. Gas stations only sold gas. Very few private cars. Plenty of motorcycles. Probably fewer bicycles than there are now. Boulevard much the same, just no nun statues. I didn't make a trip to Bayawan until '97. If I remember correctly, the road was paved all the way but in poor condition in spots.

Thanks Dudong. I wonder what lots in Dgte were selling for back then. Today about p2000+psm, higher if close to the center. One of our members told me he bought a (very) large lot in Valencia at a terrific price. Funny thing I am moving to Bacong soon, aside from the new Petrol station I doubt anything has changed in the last 20 years but that is part of the charm (as long as Robinsons is only 15 min away).

Actually the pier and Boulevard have been cleaned up extremely well. Around '98 there were maybe two internet cafes and there was a big squatters area at the end of the pier. Other than that change has been pretty slow.

    I wonder?

 Pedro! I sometimes wonder if this the reason we like it here. Time stands still to me, wish age did as well:wink: With the Hustle and Bustle of the Big Cities nice to have a sleepy hollow.

15-20+ years ago here, wasn't exactly the stone age. We had telephones, running water, flush toilets, motorbikes, cars/jeeps, pedicabs, cheap bars, nice restaurants, just our expectations were a bit lower then.

    Respect!

 KTM how right you are, the one thing I do miss from those years ago is the Respect we got, and gave to others, As Dgte moves forward, albeit slowly, the lack of respect has quickened.
