    What a stunning offer!

About as lucky as me finding YOU ... pretty damned lucky I would say!

I would be ever grateful for a peek at your scrapbook, and anything else besides. It all helps turn pure theory into reality. Of course the PEOPLE are the real key aspect and I can tell from this board that there is a lively group of loonies (like me) already living there

    Cheers

Aha - 2mb would be fine, perfectly workable. Bit of a bummer about the year's contract though.

Great tip - I have a good spare router I'll bring with me!

Jeez, that's a tough one. Actually I am not a 'real' programmer in a literal sense. I have too varied a commercial background to fit into that narrow slot. I do have a good grasp of HTML and can create simple websites, but as my business has grown over the past dozen years I have needed to outsource coding for larger jobs with membership databases or shopping carts. I lead projects, do the design concepts, liaise with the client and organise the data, plus do the Search Engine optimization aspects. You can see the wide range of my client sites at Web site design | ecommerce solution | website design

I guess my only tip would be - identify who will be your target customer. Where are they based and what is their likely price expectation? What is the level of competition? All basic business questions really, not php code related. There are a million programmers advertising on freelance sites like ScriptLance.com Custom Freelance Programming. Outsource web projects to programmers and designers. ... could you compete with them, if your potential clients live outside your local area?

Just some thoughts, more questions than answers I'm afraid!

    Cheers
    Adrian

    Dumaguete hospitals

Aha ... interesting feedback Rhoody, tree climbing is not on my list of "things to do" I thought this article was very iluminating.
    Dumaguete Philippines: Hospitals

Actually that whole site is full of extremely useful info, highly recommended reading ... I hope I am not breaking any forum rules by including that?

    fast internet connection

I sure hope a business license isn't needed for a 2Mb connection - I have been through the pain barrier here in Cyprus getting a bloody license and sure don't want to repeat that. In any event I don't see myself doing any work within the Philippines itself, so a license would make no sense.

Any other feedback on this (essential) point?

    Cheers
    Adrian

    Selecting the best location

Yes, I have spent a good deal of time on research - and sure haven't finished yet. I have decided that I must aim to have no more than 5 locations by the time I book tickets. That would give me 4 days in each place, without needing to extend my tourist visa. Of course that will only give me the barest overview, but being on the ground should surely enable me to pick my (first) spot to live there a while. I will make great efforts to meet and mix with expats in each town, that's the 1st thing on my check list and I know from living here in Cyprus, how important that is.

    See you in July!

    Cheers
    Adrian

(P.S. does nobody on this forum use their real names in posts? Makes it kinda impersonal when replying)

    Coyotes bar

Thanks for the warm welcome - you have a great website, informative, up to date info, good pics, Search Engine friendly page addresses ... a fine job!

If you're looking for an interactive map for your "find us" page you might like to check out mapCentral - The Philippine Map Online , it's much more detailed than the Web browser and Live Maps are incompatible one.

    See ya soon,

    Cheers (hic)

    medical care

Hmmmn - thanks for that Rhoody, I have read every post in that thread and can see I had better plan to be REALLY ill somewhere else!

I know that the Philippines is 3rd world and would be naive to expect world class medical facilities in Dumaguete, but I had hoped for more positive reports. Seems like Cebu is the nearest for a good standard, I don't fancy having to make my way to Phuket for help with my in-growing hard on ... though they would surely be able to help in that department

    Hmmmn ... not sure.

    Cheers
    Adrian

It was recommended to us to purchase a UPS as a temporary backup to cover any brown-outs. Any thoughts on that, Dude? I am going to research a bit here and see what we'd be talking about in terms of :greedy: to purchase one.
