    My Top 5

I like this thread so I'm bumping it back up! Here's my Top Five in no particular order, which is quite similar to The Dane's:
    • Persian Palate
    • The trio of Lab-as, Hayahay and Chez Andre (Can I count them as one!?)
    • Don Atilano's
    • Coco Amigos
    • Carmine's or Le Chalet, probably the latter

I used to eat at Boston Market but stopped going when this happened. Oh, and can I give Mr. D at Silliman Avenue an honorable mention? Their 88/98 weekday/weekend buffets are a blessing when I'm low on cash or too tamad too cook.

was really keen to try the italian restaurant (chef carmine's ) when we were there , but didn't it make it , hope next time ,nxt yr .

    ..................................

In general terms if being fuzzy about ingredients ,questions of sanitation ,health and safety measures ,and many issues in relation to the quality of food serve when eating out , then it's better to stay at home and cook ones own meal to be certain.

I agree restaurants /eating places have secret ingredients to make dishes as delicious to everyones palate . Some do use flavoring ingredients with higher carcinogenic substance, loads of MSG for instance (like in chinese dishes ,but love them too),and most food additives that has the 'e' in them and so on and can be far damaging to health. Many restaurants do used manufactured ingredients for their dishes . Many don't have gardens or farms as back up for fresh supply , to make fresh tomato sauce for instance, it's the time element and profit. We never knew where the cabbage/lettuce from in the salad ,when it was probably only a day ago was sprayed with banned chemicals with high toxicity content before the rush harvest .Those are one of the many the uncertainties.

It's nice to eat out though and most of us love it . Any discovery of non-edible fragments in the dish can cause havoc and deeper anxieties and put off for life for a repeat in the same place . It doesn't worry us of the less visible aspects of the food ,the unseen ingredients and mixtures and this is where the catch is when eating out ,we'll never know everything we are ingesting into our system ,only the cook knows .Life is too short to worry ,and again we never know when and where the next lightning strikes , happy eating .

Persian Palate is at the Ground Floor of the Spanish Heritage building, beside the 99 Peso Store.

The best bang for the buck, er Peso, Food.NET. but my tastes run to the simple. Very cheap, good Philippine fare, Fantastic Lechon Baboy Fri-Sat-Sun
quick service, faster than Mcdonalds, but that is't saying much.

If you don't want to eat MSG say home... it's sold by the kilo here.

Can't wait for Rosante to reopen, great Filipino food, large portions, cheap, but typiclaly very slow service.
I have been to Carmines, craving good Italian food, for a tourist bugdet maybe OK, portions very small, expensive by local standards. Tasty pasta though.
Hayahay, inconsistant quality in my opinion, the fresh grilled seafood is good, IF the sea critters are fresh.pizza is good

Sta. Monica resort has a wonderfull fresh seafod buffet, pick your uncooked food and they will prepare to you instrutions, however, pricey. But I am a cheap skate...

Coco Amigos, I am predjudiced against the BVLD. OK food, 0ver priced, small portions. The tex mex is pasable, if you crave Mexican food while in the Pilippines. but nothing to write home about.

Wynot resaurant not bad last time I was there over a year ago. good portion size, medium cost,(depending on yor order) variety menu.

Annabel jeans has a passable hamberger and fries.

    my highly subjective opinion

I went to food.net once. Their servings are small, 3 pcs. of meat on a platito! When I was paying at the cashier's, she called over the server, berated her in front of me then said "TOO MUCH!" I wouldn't have understood it if it was in the vernacular but the cashier really wanted to let me know.

To make a long story short, I never went back. I can get myself to eat really bad food from time to time but I won't tolerate bad service.

I don't think "good restaurants" and "Dumaguete" should be used in the same sentance. Anybody can make a pizza, for a good resraurant you need good food and good service which cannot be found in Dumaguete
