 McAFEE now has a back up programme, Google has a data recovery System on its Picasa3 Sister Company, Driver Doctor will Find the right driver you require. All of course are researchable. Hope you get it sorted, I lost a lot of Photos some 2 years ago. Storing on Disk can be Dodgy if it is on the same System. I learned the hard way and store on a Network back up system, 1. on McAFEE and again on Telefonica.es Best of Luck:wink:

If the computer does not see the drive it could be the partition is corrupt or it could be the drive housing and its electronics have failed or the drive has failed completely.

If it is a corrupt partition spinrite may help if it is the others then it will not.

Does the drive have its own power supply? if so does the light come on when it has power and the usb cable is plugged in? Also listen to see if you can hear the drive spinning. If there is no lights and the drive is not spinning it could be the power supply.

I any event if the problem is the power supply or the housing the drive could be removed and connected using a different housing.

you can also try Data Recovery Services, Software, Solutions - Ontrack Data Recovery

We have had a customer use them. You will need a computer connected to a stable internet connection because it is all done on line. You will also need an extra disk to put the recovered data on if memory serves.

Also the hardware needs to be working to use the remote services.

I can hear and feel the drive spinning. the lights are on but nobody's home as they say.

I've been uploading to a network site for extra back up but now this has happened in the middle.

yes its a separate drive with its own power which is working fine.

I do appreciate all the suggestions and help given on this thread

Spin rite is a software used in recovering data from your hard drive. They say it is good but never tried this. Try to google it. Also for backing up important files you might want carbonite.

you say the drive is spinning....do you see the drive letter associated with it in "my Computer"?

also try to check in disk management if it sees the drive and perhaps just has not assigned a drive letter.

you can get the the disk managemment quickly but clicking start and run and type diskmgmt.msc and press enter.

Warranty on harddisk is always a limited warranty.
Only in case of mecanical failure this warranty is valid.
If it is a softwareproblem, for instance a virusproblem, there is no warranty.
