What constitutes a good price is variable. First select your route. Your choice of origin and arrival airfield may have a have a considerable bearing on the final price you will pay. Next have a look at enroute stops. The same rationale applies.

In the case of arrival in the Philippines, that will be a LARGE consideration. DGT is the end of the line - a nowhere really. If you insist on flying the last leg to here, you could pay dearly for it.

Consider an arrival at Cebu. It's a good international routing with connections at Hong Kong, and Seoul, amongst others to various US points. It is also an easy connect by surface or sea transport. Air less so as there is only service M,W, F & Su at an early hour.

Be wary of Philippine carriers connecting to offshore flights. Baggage entitlements are usually considerably different and excess baggage charges could quickly eliminate any apparent first glance savings.

Don't screw around with biased search engines. Use the software that the professionals do for transportation distribution. It's called Amadeus. Here's a link:

Flight Times, Flight Schedules, Best fares, Best rates, Hotel Rooms, Car Rental, Travel Guides, Trip Planning - Amadeus.net

Use this to select your routing and carrier. Try some experiments to see what it can do. I believe that it recently added a booking feature. If not, use your itinerary to feed into your favourite booking engine.

There are numerous fare rules which apply to trans-Pacific routings which are not transparent to the novice user. It could be well worth your while to consult a travel agent.

The best connection between the Philippines and the U.S., I would have to say is via Philippine Airlines...

If from Dumaguete, you can have your luggage checked through all the way to the U.S. if you are taking Philippine Airlines from Dumaguete to Manila and onwards to the US.

You can take the 4:30 P.M. flight to Manila from Dumaguete and then a flight to SFO, LAX and YVR-LAS in the evening...you dont have to claim your luggage when you arrive in Manila since they are in the same terminal...and you dont have to go out as well...

If coming from the US, this is more convenient as well since flights from SFO, LAX and LAS arrives early in the morning (between 4AM-6AM). You can also have your luggage checked through to Dumaguete and you dont have to transfer airport since both Domestic and International flights are in NAIA Centennial Terminal 2. You can easily connect to the 7:30 A.M. flight to Dumaguete.

Best travel store, Kayak, and Vayama all have much better prices than the ones that advertise all the time in the states. Check them often and early in the morning when cheap seats are released for sale.

Philippine Airlines might have the best connection to Manila, but I would never fly with them. Out of all the international airlines they are ranked near the bottom on being on time, safety, and baggage being lost. I've also read reports about dirty passenger areas upon boarding and broken seats. China Airlines is ranked about the same and I've seen a picture (not photoshopped!) of a China Airlines jet engine turbine blades being held together by seatbelts!!

Hi, Jerry -- Rick is flying American Airlines from DC to LAX to Toyko to Manila (also on Japan Airlines, which is a companion airline to AA). He got a round-trip fare of $861.

He is then flying PAL from MNL to DGT.

That's cheap! did you guys get it from the AA website, another website or from a travel agency? I think prices also varies from what month, day of the week and time you fly. I would need to get me one from Houston TX to Manila or Cebu which ever is cheapest then I can probably upgrade using my earned air miles.
