I find it interesting that Dell manufactures some if it PC parts in the PI and they try to undercut their competitors but they along with HP and Lenovo do not seem to be in the market in the PI.

That's a damned nuisance as those were 2 other contenders on my list!

It's a BIG issue when in a position to buy a new laptop, need to ensure I can get hardware support in the PI.

Checking Warranty

What an excellent suggestion to check the warranty -- hadn't even occurred to me yet. I have a little more than a year left on my HP Touchsmart warranty, so I'm going to check it out and make sure I'm covered in the PI.

Dralionblade, you just might end up with a "second job" here with your generous offer of troubleshooting with DI members, lol. It's extremely nice of you; I appreciate it immensely!

This looks promising, however I do wonder that all these places on the list can REALLY offer full support with parts.

I am living in Cyprus at the moment but will be moving to live in Dumaguete in the Philippines in July. I want to buy a new laptop, but want to check:

1) If I buy it outside the Philippines can I get it repaired under your international warranty through the Makati service center if necessary?

2) Is this the only HP service centre in the PI? So any future problems would require sending it to Makati?

3) If I need to buy this within the Philippines - are there resellers in either Dumaguete or Cebu that you could list for me?

Octagon are listed as being the HP AND Toshiba reseller in Dumaguete, seems like a large chain of stores nationwide. Trouble is the models for sale are old by European standards!

Hi, Adrian -- Thanks for your post about HP and for asking about Rick. He actually just left Manila this morning (Sunday a.m. for me, but 7:45pm Sunday night for him) and is landing in New York tomorrow at 7:00am (Monday morning); then back here to the Washington, DC, area shortly thereafter.

He had a FABULOUS time; I can't wait to see all the photos and videos. We'll post some here in the forum on the photo page for those that are interested.

Dralionblade (Marco) Just finished a major re-fit of my PC. He found nearly 6,000 damaged sectors in my hard drive and fixed them all plus tweaked everything just the way I like it. He is very professional and a computer guru. I can't recommend him enough. He also worked on my friends computer to recover thousands of lost files successfully.

Just want to add to what has already been mentioned - about checking on the warranty BEFORE you purchase a new pc.

I bought a Cpmpaq/HP laptop in Panama City, Panama in 2005, and came here to the Fils in April, 2006. Diods in the screen burnt out a week before I was leaving Panama for here, and the HP/Compaq repair center said they would need my laptop for at least 7 to 10 days to change out the screen. Since I still had 2 months left on my warranty, I came here with it and went to the Makati HP repair center....where they told me they could replace the screen.....but for cash payment only!

They claimed the world is broken up into areas of warranty service and Panama was in a different area and to get it fixed for free under the warranty I would have to return it to Panama City HP repair office. They simply would not honor the remaing warranty as the pc was not purchased in the Asian area the Philippines area are situated in. Period.
Just an F.Y.I. to think about!

I'm sure I'll be contacting Drallionblade for his assistance as my whole unit has gone blahhooy!! LOL!

 

FYI ...... i did contact that man you mention, Don.
Three times he already promised to come to fix my PC problems.
We agreed on the price and he had my list of problem points which I gave him at our first contact (during we had a cool drink).
All three times he did not show up so I don't ask him anymore.
After the third time he even did not react with a new excuse.
If you want to do any business .... keep your promises...otherwise it's not for long.
