I've a Garmin Zumo 450 (no bluetooth, less to mess up), no issues with satellites unless you're indoors, which probably would mean you're not on the bike(hopefully), (as neither the satellites nor the GPS unit are made anywhere near here). It's made for motorbikes and associated glove use, 100% waterproof, if used and maintained properly, good sized screen, easy to figure out for technonumpties, (such as myself).
You can join Roadguide Philippines website and download demo/basic maps, once you have installed Garmin Mapsource on your computer, by which you can upload/download data from/to your unit. Then, if you contribute data which can be used in subsequent versions of the updated maps,(done every couple of months usually), you will be allowed to get the contributor's version, which is really the only GPS map worth having for this entire country. (There are contributors from all over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao).
All instructions on "how to?" etc, are clearly shown on the website.
These are not for sale, contribute and you can have any future ongoing updates as I mentioned, for free. I have my doubts whether Mactan Michael will just give you these maps, as one of the Roadguide founders is a very good friend of his and mine.

Google just spent several months with an airplane in the Philippines taking aerial photographs all over the place ..

Google maps is pretty good in the major cities and some of the larger provincial centers, but, unfortunately, cannot be used on any 3rd party GPS ..
