On the contrary, bisaya is actually quite complicated. To a non Pinoy it would seem primitive and limited because the locals esp the younger generation use all these new slang words some of which I don't even have a grasp. There should be a Bisaya to English Dictionary that includes all the slangs for example the word "jer-jer" (sorry!) I mean, who came up with that?!!! :D It doesn't even sound remotely the same as the "root" word. It can get very frustrating to a non-local but it wrong to say the dialect is primitive. To a confused foreigner it would seem so. It is inherent among the locals to use "short cut" words in place of phrases. Call it laziness or other but that's just how they do it.
The "no stock sir" is probably an escape from having to speak english. Some of these store employees have hardly any education let alone training so pronouncing english words will be hard for them. Perhaps they should be trained but it would surprise me if the owner of the establishment is prepared to "waste" time teaching them english. Explore, look around and yes, a visual aid is always handy. Having a drink is the universal way of breaking the ice with local folk anywhere.
I would say that as time passes you will learn that there are in fact indications of gender although not in all cases; present, past and future tense.
In short, when in Rome... you know the rest

Well observed RHB,but haven't you noticed that sometimes apart from the hands the lips are used as an alternative body part (or is this what you call snout combine 'mouth +nose' ) to point direction.

I wasn't meaning to insult the language. but if it is complicated, then I don't feel so bad not being ableto learn it!
You basically are agreeing with me on most of my post. Some under educated Locals are reluctant to speak english if they don't have the skills as I stated. they may feel shy, as my wife says. Sometimes just to much work I think, easier to defer or send somewhere else. I have learned to be persistant, and rephrase to very specific questions. That seemsto be another pinoy characteristic. If you don't ask the exact right question there will be no correct answer. The thinking is very concrete with no abstraction or extrapolation. Learning seems mostly through nemonics.
Also, If you look at a map drawn by a Pinoy as an example, It will have a pictograph showing the width of the street. If you draw a map with simple lines, many will not understand it. No world...

Any language that uses 2/3 the alphabet and has limited expressions used for different meanings I would say is primitive.(opinion) Languages are rated on their complexity by their ability to describe detailed complex concepts and ideas. German in fact for many years was the prefered language of engineering and tech speak precisely because it has the ability to pinpoint meaning precisely. Some of those words were unbelievibly long and no one but a German could pronounce them

I think this would be an interesting topic under it's own thread, simply because we have a good number of foreiners and well spoken pinoys to dispel some perhaps incorrect notions, all though opinions will always differ.

Yes I have, actually I was aware of the subtle facial expressions used here before I arrived. I was warned no to stare down a male Filipino as it was a sign of aggresion. The eyebrow raise, the pursed lips, and the Gape,
