:wink:Odd you should say that Bruce, Just of late, I have been buying Cuppa Soups. Whenever I get a little Chesty or blocked nose, the first thing that happens is I don't want to eat. I ask Azon or the monster for one of these soups and it seems to do the trick. I am not sure whether they are actually working but I do feel a whole lot better. I do agree that Mothers recipes from years ago were wonderful treatments.

Lots of liquids are great to keep mucous thin too, but stay away from chocolate, coffee, most tea and anything diuretic or with a lot of caffeine in it.
If the mucous in the bronchial tubes/lungs is thin enough, it can be reabsorbed back into the system without much coughing.
If one doesn't drink enough proper fluid, the mucous thickens and that is where most infections, coughs and possible pneumonia set in.

Does anyone have a natural remedy for constipation?
My 3 year old has had problems with it for about a month now and only goes every 4th or 5th day.
The Pediatrician tells us that she will go when she is ready to go, but by that time, she has an awful stomach ache.
We cut the sticky rice as recommended, but that doesn't work and I have been giving her a solution of black licorice, but that tastes awful and works really slow.
I don't want to give her over the counter drugs except in a possible emergency because of the dependency issues involved with those types of laxatives and I don't know what is really in them.
    Maybe something harmful?
A pharmacist sold us Dulcolax SP and told us it was safe for children, but after we read the ingredients and warnings on the label, we are afraid to give it to her.
My wife also suffers from constipation and we know it is from the rice, so she tried it.
It gave her terrible stomach cramps for about 4 hours before it finally worked.

Prunes or prune juice should help the constipation. I've seen prune juice on the shelf at Robinson and they might have prunes as well.

Bananas work wonders for constipation. I'm sorry to hear the little one is having problems.

I have tried prune juice, but she doesn't like it and won't drink it.
I am probably going to have to figure a way to disguise the taste so she won't refuse it.
Apple juice seemed to work for a while, but she drinks a lot of it and I guess her body has gotten too used to it for it to work anymore.
Anyway, prune juice is the way to go, but how do I get her to drink it?

Bananas are about the only fruit she likes and might be the reason she does finally defecate when she does, but she eats 1-2 of them every day.
I think the problem arises from the fact that my wife insisted on a milk, rice or meat diet and Marci will not eat any vegetables or many fruits now.
I have even tried chocolate oatmeal, but she sees it and turns her nose up at it.
All in all, she has lousy eating habits and at 3 years of age, she is hard to deal with when it comes to adding new things to her diet.
She screams and has fits if she can't have things her way and I have tried putting my foot down, but Nida gives in so easily that I guess I have let both of them get away with this to avoid a confrontation.
Now I'm sorry I let things get out of control and need to get the child's diet back on course.

    Ha!
    I found something.
My first wife used mineral oil when she was pregnant with no ill effects and it worked great.
I asked for some at the local pharmacy, but they refused to sell it to me when they found out how I was going to use it.
They said it was for external use only and claimed it was poisonous if one drank it.
I just looked online and it is very safe as long as it isn't used too regularly, so our old doctor wasn't so stupid after all.

Cod liver oil tastes like something unmentionable and seems hard to find now that we have mineral oil. But it worked. I have used mineral oil, citrate of magnesia also called magnesium citrate. Some chocolate for diabetics has the same active ingredient as exlax, which is a chocolate flavored laxitive. Any kind of chocolate and coffee consumed closely together for me seems to make a trip to the comfort room likely. I wouldn't have a clue as to the proper dosage for a toddler.

    Frits of labor.

Do what I do, get some mangoes, apples if available, grapes, whatever you can get. Cut them up, peel prepare as necessary in a small bowl. Take your time and make sure you are seen. Take the bowl without saying a thing to your favorite chair and start eating. Soon your daughter may become curious and ask what are you eating. Offer her some and if she is like my children she will be hooked on her own curiosity. Now my kids love to eat fruits and will often ask me to prepare a bowl for them. Because they have seen me eat it themselves they have learned to love fruits as I do.

    Good luck on this.
