⌛ how to find cheap houses/apartments for rent

I have searched online and most of those for rent in dumaguete are for foreigners and a bit expensive.

How can I find cheaper houses/apartments for rent in dumaguete near silliman university or accessible to schools? Any tips that you can share for those new to the place in terms of finding good places and dealing with owners of houses,etc?

I would suggest walking around in the area in wish you want to live in and look for signs for rentals. Also talk to people in that area, it seems as though someone always has a relative that is looking to rent out space.

additional, get a hotel a few days, roam around, if you find an interesting object, observe the neighborhood at different times of the day (karaoke in the evening, dogs, rooster in the morning, trash burning etc) ask the landlord if you might just sleep a night there for a small fee...
