Thinking of flying to Cebu from the UK instead of Manila.
May I ask would it be advisable to travel on the ceres bus with 30 kilos each,
wife and myself, thus avoiding excess baggage.

    Only Once!

 Hi Jim, I did this journey only once. I decided to give it a try, 39 hours, through some obscure Chinese Airports with long lay downs, a LONG, Long Haul you could say. Cost 3 years ago £690 Yep! Good but little or uneatable food, Totally uncomfortable flights in China and not a word of English Spoken
To-day I see that the journey is 29 hours, a lot of Asian Air Air Ways are using Tokyo as the Asian HUB. The costs I looked at this Morning are between $ 2.500 & $ 5.800
using Bangkok or Singapore are expensive too.
Jim, for me I think it Cheaper and quicker to use a well Travelled route and pay the excess. (My 7 kilo excess this time was 700php. @ 100p per Kilo, a lot cheaper I think.)

Just my Opinion Jim, having tried it. :o

Whatever, have a safe trip, When are you Hoping to make the journey?

    Jack P.

When we come back from Cebu loaded, we get on the Dumaguete bound bus, rather than the Lilo-an bus. That way we don't have to worry about the luggage until we are in Dumaguete, no toting it on and off the boat.

    Have done it many times.

    Your mileage may vary.

It don't have to be like that to fly to Cebu.
A choise of national and international airlines fly international routes to Cebu:
    Air Busan (Busan)
    Airphil Express (Singapore)
    Zest Airways (Seoul-Incheon)
    Asiana Airlines (Seoel-Incheon)
    Cathay Pacific (Hongkong)
Cebu Pacific (Busan, Hongkong, Seoel-Incheon, Singapore
    Jeju Air (Busan)
    Korean Air (Seoel-Incheon)
    Philippine Airlines (Seoel-Incheon en Tokio-Narita)
    Qatar Airways (Doha)
    SilkAir (Singapore)
If you have a lot of luggage it is indeed better to take the Cereslines direct to Dumaguete(no change of bus untill you are in Dumaguete, the bus goes on the ferry)

    Cost!

Jim is trying to save on excess baggage, Don't seem the right way to save, by paying premium Air fares. I KNOW there are a Lot of Air Ways that do the trip, it is the Cost and Time that is relevant.
I was merely saying it is not, a Good International flight from the UK. I take it you have done this Journey? Cos it is not, like the web site says so, believe me.

    Apology

:o Seems I owe you an apology Firefly. My sister tells me that the journey is Quite good now and cost effective. Sorry if I doubted you. She sent me a page on Qatar. 17 hours via Hong Kong £750.

    @ Jim, Worth pursuing :D

Cheers jack, been on the Qatar flight to Cebu, not bad. But the ferry in the morning in Cebu was cancelled, then in the evening we paid excess baggage.
Hate all the hassle in Cebu. Even worse in Manila.
Suppose the Cebu to Dumagete flight has excess baggage too.

Thinking of taking the bus route to Dumagete. got till January to think about it.

    Ticket prices change daily.
So even if you are flexible on the day that you want to fly, it is a gamble to find the cheapest flight.
I was able to fly a few times from Brussels to Cebu by Cathay Pacific or a combination British/Cathay.
From Brussels normaly the cheapest flights are to Hong Kong combined with a ticket to Cebu or Cebu via Manila with Cebu Pacific.
But the situation has changed recently since Airphil express is also offering nonstop flights between Cebu and Hong Kong in daytime and not red-eye flights like Cebu Pacific.
But it remains risky business if a flight between the Philippines and Hong Kong is canceled.
B.T.W. This time i will fly with KLM to Manila and departure (next year) from Bangkok.
It is also important to know that most airlines handle a complete different price for a round trip ticket with return after less than 1 month, 3 months or 1 year.
