If you plan to use your GI Bill or other US Financial Aid, you should be sure to check with the prospective school to see if it is approved by the US gov't. Very few colleges/universities in the Philippines are. I know Silliman is...but I think it's the only one in Negros Oriental.

For online degrees American Military University is also a good option. The tuition is more reasonable and they offer degress that make use of your military training. Silliman does offer a Business degree, a good friend and neighbor of mine graduated from that course at Silliman but he has never used it to get work in that field. I am sure you want to go there to be near your family so maybe you should attend a few semesters to see if the school meets your needs. I would want my son to attend Silliman to be near us I just cannot say that would be the best University to go to.

Hi erik and welcome.I was in the army and served in joint service duties which ment I fell into formation at the pentagon along side marines navy airforce and coastguard soldiers for the joint cheif of staff.Even there marines were given a special repute. I've been out since 1995 and chose philippines out of possible thailand or vietnam for the V.A. offices here in manila which you and your dad most likely benefit from as I most gratefully do. The V.A. does not run their education program without knowing all about the schools they send veterans to at thier expense so be sure to take your dads insight and the veterans counselor info as those services are free to you and much more for free not including the thanks for your service remark they owe you also as chartered by congress. My senator man is a veteran and heads the veterans oversight committee for senate of the U.S.A. and he assured in person that veterans are owed the best senate can offer.Hope all is good and very important to register with V.A.with all military medical records in your careful possesion before your ETS date and during your last week of service while going through discharge routines. And hope no recall for stop loss actions by the marines.

Welcome Devil Dog and hope you're enjoying Okinawa. My son is there, USMC WO and returned to Okinawa recently from exercises on Fuji. Anyway, think long and hard about how valuable any degree you obtain will be - in your future working career. You'll of course, be weighing that with the family contact, but it's your future to consider. Any degree from a US college or university - for an American -would be considered more favorably by a US employer than one from the Philippines. They might cut a Filipino immigrant some slack with a Philippines degree....but I think you'd battle with holding one and trying to find a job eventually.
