    heart problems

Swelling of the ankles is one of the warning signs of CHF ( congestive heart failure ) you need to have some blood work done . Ask for a cbc cmp and most important for you, bnp . If your bnp is elevated this is one of the markers indicating CHF , along with a chest x ray ...... Carl (emergency room RN)

    Hi Teach.
Good you're back in town (so to speak) again.
And now get your a...###!!!! moving more. It's so good for your body.
Today I tried how long I could walk in the heath of the day before stopping a jeepney or tricycle while returning to town from my car dealer where I had to bring my car for a repair.
I walked all the way from north of the airport to the boulevard where I did enjoy more than ever a cold beer
People stared at me if I was an alien (a swetting alien !!) :D

I had similar symptoms, and had a heart attack in September, 1995. An angiogram revealed 3 severely plugged arteries and one not quite as bad artery... triple bypass surgery in January 1996, followed by major change in lifestyle, especially lots of walking every day, and I feel pretty good almost 15 years later.

    See a cardiologist immediately, Teacher.

Swelling of the feet and ankles can occur as a result of conditions involving the local extremities as well as systemic conditions (diseases and conditions that affect the entire body). Localized processes such as injuries and infections may lead to a swollen foot and/or ankle only on the involved side. Swelling of the ankle on one side is often a result of sprains or strains. Sometimes diseases that affect the entire body, such as heart disease and kidney or liver failure, can result in excess fluid buildup (edema) that is often concentrated in the legs and feet, leading to swelling not only of the ankles but also of the feet and lower legs. This can also occur with obstruction of the venous system, as may occur with pregnancy and obesity. Diseases of the joints, such as arthritis, can also affect the joints of the ankle and foot, leading to swelling of the involved areas. Treatments for swollen ankles and feet depend on the particular cause, but antiinflammatory medications are often used to manage the pain associated with strains and sprains.

Causes of Swollen Ankles and/or Swollen Feet
    Ankle Pain and Tendinitis
    Arthritis
    Bug Bites and Stings
    Bumps and Bruises
    Burns (First Aid)
    Cellulitis
    Cirrhosis (Liver)
    Congestive Heart Failure
    Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
    Fracture
    Gout
    Kidney Failure
    Obesity
    Osteomyelitis
    Pseudogout
    Rheumatoid Arthritis
    Scleroderma
    Sprains and Strains
    Vasculitis

Hi Teacher. You have received excellent advice from JonMor, above. I have broken my self-imposed exile of over a year in order to reply to this thread.

Get checked out by a cardiac specialist. If memory serves, you have been screwing around with everything else for far too long.

We would miss your important and continuing contributions should you expire prematurely.

I am approaching the five year point since my own quadruple bypass at the Heart Institute in Ottawa. I could NOT believe that my heart's major blood vessel was 90% blocked. I was almost completely asymptomatic. I had my minor concern checked out and 'm here to tell the tale. It would not have been so otherwise.

Teacher - save your own life!
