Providing that your dog is not the issue and so excited it's inviting a challenge here's what I do: When the stray/unleashed dogs rush out of their yard I stand direct in front of them with a wide stance and point at them with my index finger making an assertive "sssshhhhhhht" sound and stare direct at them keeping my finger up. If they bark, I take a step towards them making the same sound and my finger still up. They WILL back up and then finally they lose eye contact. At that point, I have won and can continue walking my dog. You've claimed and gotten dominance from pac-oriented animals in 10 seconds or less. Be assertive, do not hesitate. Dogs can sense weak and unsure people and take advantage of them when claiming dominance. I do this for dogs out in public streets, parks, etc. If they are in their own yard, I keep right on walking and ignore their barking as long as they stay in their yard. It's worked for me and hope it works for you. Cheers
Well! That is another Story.! Hi Dave & Imp, Jack P. just popping his head up here, I tried with vain, some time ago, to export my 4 year old Iberian Lynx. Of course I could not, he was an endangered, Spanish lynx. BUT! I then tried, to export a 4 year old English Short haired Moggy, The PI Veterinary Section said, NO way Jose! The thread was not so good, I was enlightened, to the fact that the PI, has a fairly liberal view of Dog Imports, Dave, it would appear, that cats just will not, be able to tolerate, the heat and Humidity, here in the PI. Suffering is one thing, that the Vet Section will not accept. I donated the Lynx to the Zoo, in Seville (Spain) I gave the Short Hair to my Cleaners Daughter, Both, I hear are doing well. Whilst I accept, you may be attached to a cat, Best leave it at home, with a new owner, Cats, after all, are solitary creatures, They know where the best place to be is. Jack P.
Because of the climate here, I left my cat in UK with a family member so that I knew he would be well looked after. The cats that are here have adjusted to the climate and seem to have much shorter coats. There are plenty here so its no problem to adopt or rescue one. I have Blanco, an 18/24 month old all white Tom, part-Burmese part-alley cat with a bit of penguin and kangaroo thrown in. Anyone who is former British military from a certain era will probably shudder at the mention of Blanco. But being a white p*ssy he is my connection to the old country. :D As far as transporting a cat from wherever you are to here, I would say no, for the cats sake, don't do it. You can own a dog, but a cat owns you.
Thanks for you input on the cats. Ironically I already have shipped a lot of food for them to the Philippines. I guess that is why I look toward the forum for better ideas. Thanks again
Sold! :D Well Dave, I can't see that being a problem, If the cat's can't come, I am sure you will be able to distribute, the food, to worthy causes here, amongst the cat owning members, maybe even sell it! A lot of things from overseas, are in the sellers market place. Jack P.
