Well Larry, since I am retired and have a little money I have nothing else to do, but to ensure that this man does not cause harm to others, and this will not pass without justice.

I have hired one of the best attorneys in Dumaguete (and he was not cheap) and we have file these charges: Criminal and civil complaint against Elumba for ATTEMPTED MURDER attended by aggravating circumstances of evident premeditation and treachery as well as SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURIES. We had to go before a prosecutor two days ago to complete an affidavit on these charges. Elumba was present and he admitted to shooting me and this was no accident. My lawyer said because of this the case will take about a month to be completed. After this one is complete my attorney will be filling two more civil cases on my behalf relating to negligent .

I thank every one again for their thoughts and their prayers. I am getting stronger day by day and I am up walking with the assist of a cane. Bad things can happen to anyone, anywhere anytime and it is always a sad event whenever it happens. No matter whom we are, rich or poor; all it takes is a lost of your temper to change the events in your life or the lives of others. Lesson learned; when you walk away from a bad situation always watch your back for you never know what is coming next.

I commend you your attitude and courage, Rev. I hope that this quest is successful for you, and that you are able to send a message to the other 3000 macho thugs who are waiting to see if they can get away with shooting a Kano. Otherwise, we may all be in trouble.

Bless you, Rev and thank God for your continued progress in healing.

I believe that you are doing the right thing in persuing the legal remedies available to you. I am still surprised that the onus is on the victim to do so. Please keep us advised of the progress of this case as there is considerable interest in the incident. Your unhappy circumstance serves a valuable point of education for many others, not just USians nor expats in general.

I am happy to note that you do NOT share the anger and fear unfortunately displayed by some others posting here.

Dumaguete still is the City of Gentle People and your shooting an isolated yet lamentable case.

Anger? Why should not people be angry?

Fear? I don't see much fear being posted.

Isolated incident? Where have you been the last 8 months?

Shadow. Just calm down. Take a few deep breaths. Enjoy your favourite legal beverage or medication. Ready?

Now re-read what you wrote. It's all there. The fear and the anger, both! Where have I been? Right here and happy to be so.

Well Davefitz, I have been here far too long to be uptight over this. As I implied, this is far from an isolated incident. IF you have been here the last 8 months, you may have noticed a few other foriegners getting shot lately? No? You need to get out more often, or read the papers.

I don't fear anything here, except what I would do in such a situation. A legal battle would not be within my monetary means, and there is no way this would be pursued legally without someone with monetary means, so I am afraid I would do as the Filipinos would do. I will leave that to you to misinterpret as I am sure you will.

    Incident

Where I come from, this could easily be handled by a few black hoods and
a piece of rope. This is the city of lawlessness, right?
