Correction, you DID a lot of streaming and torrent download. 384kbps is EXTREMELY slow.

ITqest, formerly Quest, formerly IT Outlook, have been the subjects of many a complaint on this forum. This may be why they change their business name every other year or so. Do a forum search, you will find them.

I was a customer of ItQuest for 2 years when it was a sole proprietorship. Now it is a corporation and the reason for the name change is the SEC is picky about names sounding alike. The management has changed as has the philosophy. Getting a name to operate a business at DTI is different than SEC. So we have that straight now?

The previous owner had his share of problems mostly stemming from the fact that he was a reseller of services for Globe, Byantel, and PLDT I-gate. Even though these suppliers did not serve his customer base for the most part, they looked at him as competing with them, not actually giving them business they otherwise would not have. The end result was he got jacked around quite a bit over the years with abrupt terminations of contracts and the like. Can anyone say "Crab Mentality"? He could have folded up, but he stuck with it out of loyalty to his customers.

Even our favorite electric company NORECO had a hand it the problems as their unreliable electricity running at 180 volts in Talay (I know I lived there) and the spikes and surges that destroyed sensitive communications equipment. That was addressed and through a large investment, that source of frustration was mitigated.

Shortly after I became a customer, the PLDT I-gate came online and after that my connection was up over 95% of the time due to the fact that if PLDT went down, a simple reconfiguration of my router would switch me over to Globe or Byantel. If you subscribe to the I-gate, the fiber goes directly to the switch that links to the new fiber cable running next to Negros that terminates in San Pedro California. It is a nice connection with less latency than the other providers. Globe and Byantel have to go through Manila before connecting to the backbone through land and microwave. Each link creates more latency. I upgraded to 512k and could use two computers and an IP phone and was happy because I could depend on it.

The customer service was local and they knew me by name. If there was a problem they would attend to it 24 hours a day by text. When I first became a subscriber, it was out of necessity due to my location. When I moved closer to town I took the connection with me and had a 75 foot pole put in my yard out of loyalty and liking the small company even though Sky Cable Globe and Smart Bro were available.

Now that the corporation was formed and the old owner is for the most part out of the picture, the company is managed by balikbyans. If I had to describe them with one word it would be arrogant. As soon as I started getting their off the wall emails I quickly switched to Sky Cable as I saw the change coming.

Yes, there were complaints on this board, but for the sake of transparency it was instigated by the owner of this board as a personal vendetta against IT Outlook then Quest due to the above mentioned long term outages caused by the crab mentality of the providers. Maybe it is contagious.

Out of fairness to the Dane, he had reason to be upset because he was depending on the service to conduct his business activities and if I am correct he now lives out of the area so he can enjoy a good connection as Dumaguete for the most part does not to this day have "great" connectivity. As anyone here that has tried or who is running a business here in The Philippines knows, it is difficult for a foreigner to manage because of the way things work - or should I say do not work here.

It is easy to complain about things that you do not know about, and to provide a link to other posts on a board without first hand knowledge is the equivalent of Chikka Chikka.

I can almost guarantee you if this house has Quest installed it is for a reason, and that reason is because the big providers do not find it financially feasible to service the area. Other services are a lot cheaper and promise larger bandwidth.

If It was still It-Quest, I would say stick with it, but since the takeover I would say do whatever you can to find an alternative.

That is first hand knowledge, not regurgitated crap.
