Jack, as Rhoody stated, it is a combination of things that contributes to the "reputation indicator". I am not familiar with the software that he uses on this board in particular, but Rhoody said there are plenty of filters, so that would mean there are also plenty of factors. I would suspect that it has to do with the amount of friends and foes someone has, how many individuals click on the rep button, post count, post frequency along with threads started. I am sure there are other factors also.

:o Well JM, I am no PC wizkid, so, it is all unknowing to me, All I can say if it took Larry 3 years to achieve it and Pat only 9 months then, even with the 75% growth factor, Pat must have been doing OK with his posts and not upsetting too many members here. If there is anything sinister (I am sure there is not) there would be a lot more double greens about. Anyway, This could go on forever, If the Administrators are satisfied it is a secure REP indicator then I for one am happy. If we all post well, keep our anger and Rage under control maybe we will all benefit from the next stage of our membership.

    Jack,
It is probably the most accurate that it can be. Computers do not do what you want them to do, they do what you tell them to do and the results are only as good as the the commands. I am sure that someone could compare post counts with green boxes and come up with a theory that there is a correlation, filters or no filters.

A valuable forum member is one that posts often and the software way give this some weight. I am sure this three thread and the WhyNot thread have earned a San Miguel by now. I know Google is loving it and crawling the site more than once a day because of activity.

Must not apply in my case. :D

I think the more one gives GOOD QUALITY, relevant info is more applicable.

    Pat has earned his green!

If the rating system works will always be subjective....people with a good rating will swear by it, say it is good....people with a poor rating will swear at it; say it is bad...

What is more important is "how" it will be used....if it is a gauge, so someone can get a feel for the persons forum reputation.... that is one thing.... if it is used as some sort of justification for disciplinary action.... that might not be to everyones liking.....

but then there are probably a lot of forum rules people do not like..... you can not please everyone and the forum is not so much a "democracy" as a benevolent dictatorship..... the owner pays the bills.....he gets to say how things are run.....

DI has decided this is a worthwhile addition to the forum.... It may be.... so far it appears to be rewarding people that deserve recognition.....

Not to justify or defend myself and to respond to posts on this thread, I think what my situation is that I went through a lot since moving from Makati a year ago, and I began using the forum to help in those areas and reported back to help others in the future. I went through the marriage process here and everything that implies, applied for a passport for the wife and looked into the visa process, we bought a lot, built a house, bought a bike, bought a car, mostly all through the help of the forum so I felt an obligation to share my experiences; hence, a high number of posts in a shorter period of time. Many of you have helped me through those experiences (don't want to name names because of any perceived association, but I will point out Larry as being extremely knowledgeable and helpful - and I never met him!). Personally, I enjoy the posts by those with a higher number of posts like Knowdafish and Jack and have no idea why they haven't received recognition. Maybe this will bring attention to that. As far as the "old boy's" club, I don't belong to one.

My feeling that is what a forum should be about....helping others....sharing information / knowledge / experiences.... I look back at the past six years and marvel at how little I knew when I came here.... how many stupid mistakes I made....how many ignorant assumptions I made.... If this forum can help someone avoid mistakes....improve their life....it has served a major useful purpose....
If a forum is run right.... being in or out of the "good old boys club" should not matter
