Dharmabum, you are very lucky that the neighbours moved.
Instead of moving they could have bought as well some more of these nervous spaniel dogs. :D
And what then ? Higher volume at your amplifier ?

Yes I am lucky. It was the act of a desperate man.

Noise pollution is troublesome for me. I seem to have the hearing of a bat.

I value quiet ahead of peace. If it is quiet we may work towards peace.

Someday I will build myself a sound proof (or highly resistant) room to sleep in. The walls will be double with as much empty air space as engineering will allow.

Sound needs a medium to travel. A vacuum would deaden the vibration. However from my research nothing will create total and complete silence.

I have a headset with noise dampening signals and they are beautiful.

However they only knock of the mid-range frequencies. I often use them to listen to music. It filters out street noise etc and the music comes in clearer.

Also I've found it helps with conversations in noisy places. I used them once in a ships engine room.

I did that and feel good about it.

My next door neighbor in Cebu bought a new stereo and at five o’clock every morning full volume. I asked very nicely if he could keep down. But no way he was so happy with his new stereo. So after a week of this I waited until midnight then gave him full volume American style with my stereo, he was at my window in a minute telling me to turn it down or he would call the Barangay captain, I told him if he does care about me, I don’t care about you. Call whoever you want Barangay captain, Barangay police, PNP. The next morning it was quiet, that week other neighbors thanked me. But for the most part I have learned to tune out the noise.

Sleeping pills work a treat, lol

The simple solution is to stop centering in on the noise and make it worst than it really is after about 5 years one just not notice the background sounds. I have lived by railways and busy roads back in London and once under the path flight of air craft.

I no longer notice barking dogs, cockerels or that boom boom boom or karioki machines and out of tune singing etc. Its become acceptable background noise. But if I center in yes it would drive me crazy as would a jet liner or the 12.30 from Kings Cross.

Lucky for you. But don't suggest or assume that what worked with you works for all others as well.
I have seen people getting heart problems because of the noise of boom boom boom speaker boxes with distored low frequencies out of their magnificent speaker boxes.
They had to leave the places on doctors advice and are now finally back to their country of origin.
If that solves their problem ? Time will tell us/them.
They tried everything possible and even made their bedroom (in their 3rd house up on the hills) as a bunker.
But the noise did attack them still when they had to shop or else.
Lucky me that I'm not having such a situation/problem.
Telling "simply ignore the noise" will help in my perception only a few like you.
But I agree that people can get used to a lot of things they fear in the first moment.
    I love e.g. a meeting with sharks.
I never had thought about that possibility when I started diving :D

It would work if they did not just concertrate on the sounds and make it more bothersoe than it really is. Perhaps hypnotism could help these poor souls that can not adapt. The sounds are part of the package of living in an affordable paradise.
