    $4000 in three weeks?
Were you taking a dozen girls to your hotel room everynight?
And there is no cover change in makati clubs.
Are you sure you are talking about philippines, or are you confusing tibet with philippines?

Dumaguete is not cheaper than manila.
Food at supermarket, items in shopping center, supplies at local hardware store. All are marked up 5 to 10% due to transport costs.
The only thing cheaper is cheap food and drinks at low cost restos. This only accounts for a small portion of your total budget.

    Turist vs. resident

That is true, and you can add that gasoline is also more expensive in the "provinces" than Manila, and for the same reason.

However, renting a house or hotel room is considerably cheaper in Dumaguete, and this counts for a fairly big part of a budget, particularly for a turist. A turist will also spend more money in restaurants, bars and tricycles/taxis than he will in shopping centers and hardware stores, and here prices in Dumaguete really are lower due to the lower level of local salaries. It is not just the prices at low cost restos, that are lower, it is the entire service sector, where prices are considerably lower.

As a rule of thumb therefore, a turist will save a lot more money by staying in Dumaguete instead of Manila than a resident will.

yeah,,,things are getting expensive for locals and foreingers alike

since new cars are more expensive these days, how about the prices of used cars and their depreciation? I usually cab it anyway when i stay in Manila in my condo since I think that's more economical and hassle free without worrying about insurance, maintenance, etc.

Manila is expensive..yes, Bars have no cover charge but discoteques have steep covers. So how much would u say to cover costs in dumaguete..basic..about 1000-2000 a month would be ok?

Fundiver, its difficult to analyze if you mix residents with tourists.
The house rentals for residents are more expensive in dumaguete than Manila for similar rentals--like apartments/houses are cheaper in Manila because there is just more of them.
Unless one lives in a native/run-down housing--which is cheap but only because manila don't have these types of housing.

For tourists, hotels are indeed cheaper. I agree.

    i need to budget...

"What discoteque are you talking about???

the discoteques are Embassy and Ascend both in the Fort... I wish I was making millions..but i just need to see what the average monthly budget is for dumaguete because I need to plan ahead. For your info..I have five mortages to pay for(3 here and two there) so it aint exactly cheap. I am asking an innocuous question and just wanted someone to just give me some rough figures.

I thought folks in the dumuguete would be chill in answering questions but i guess not.

Perhaps I was being too blunt to a person I don't know.
I was making these remarks more as a "hey, you have the bucks, so why are you sweating small stuff man!"
I wasn't trying to be antagonistic.
Should try to use smiles next time.

I checked this morning, (02/07/08, USA---Kentucky), only to discover that the Philippine peso is still under 39 pesos to the American dollar. I hope the American dollar recovers soon for the sake of us all, America and Philippines. My wife is Filipino, and we would like to send money to her family back in the Philippines, but with the rate being less than 39 pesos to the American dollar both us and her family would be losing. When the American dollar is weak the whole world economy seems to suffer. Benn

Perhaps a minor point but I've not seen the peso increase beyond the 40:1 point yet. My source is XE.com Conversion - 1.00 USD to PHP
The exchange rate appears to have been relatively stable for the past few weeks.
